I think we're way off the mancs (both clubs) and Chelsea in terms of buying power. They can spend £30m+ on one player, our XI needs work but so does the squad and spending all our summer transfer money on one player is very risky.

I agree mate its the reason why the mancs just keep on improving . we have spent a fair amount of money but rafa needed to build a whole squad where as the mancs just added to theirs .

The player in question was Kerrison, a Brazilian forward who has been a sensation in Brazil, his scoring record is approx 50 goals in 65 games.
The only reason the transfer couldn't be completed in time was that 20% of the player is owned by Corinthians and the other 80 by some media imaging group, along similar lines as Macherano and Tevez.
This meant that the paperwork involved in the potential transfer would have delayed it over and above the extra 24 hours that the premier league had granted teams.

So in terms of the actual player himself he was happy to agree terms with us? If thats the case then can we expect Rafa to try again (and hopefully close the deal) in the Summer? How much would he have cost?

You sure ,ate ? Has played virtually every game and is leading scorer in la liga with over 20 goals ? you sure your not confusing this years etoo with last years when he didnt get on with Rijkaard

Yeah the deal was an initial 8.9 million with 2 million in add-ons, the problem we might have in the summer is that our first bid sneaked in under the radar of some of the other big clubs.
If we don't have an agreement in place now I think the price could go up to levels we might be uncomfortable dealing with.

I had heard the rumours around Liverpool the weekend of the Chelsea game and, when it didn't happen on the Monday I went looking for any reports of it. Found a couple, one on the Guardian's website, another was the Corinthians website that needed translating and the other was a random rumour website.

If our financial situation is still the same in the summer what about going for Elano at man city? he's a talented creative player, who scores goals and would be a good option in the hole behind Torres and can also do a job in Midfield. Mark Hughes dosn't get along with him, and dosnt play him that reguarly so maybe we could get him fairly cheap in the summer, i think Man City would accept the £8 million they paid for him. He isnt a world class player but is damn sight better than a lot of the players we have in the squad and is worth a look IMO
