Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

It wll def get a proper name like New Anfield etc but it will be branded as a corporate stadium . Who are the backers??

As for the game . Make it a local derby or Man u

As for the stands . Let the fans vote.

The stadium should be named "New Anfield". None of these silly names like the Lloyds & TSB stadium, which is what was proposed last year.

PhiLFC wrote:1. Which team would you like us to play to open our new stadium?

2. What should it be called?  Anfield, Stanley Park, Stanfield... (though this will probably be decided on the sponsors ie Emirates, Reebok etc)

3. New stand names?

The answers to your questions:-

1. I would like to see the opening game of the new stadium be played against either Everton or Man U. It would be a good game to watch and beating either of the 2 scum sides on the first game would be great  :)

2. I don't think they will call it Anfield because it won't be anything like Anfield now. It will either be chosen by the Sponsers with there name in it, or be called Stanley Park.

3. The biggest side behind the goal will certainly be called "The Kop" and that's where the best atmosphere will be in the ground. As for the others I'm unsure so could be just called the North/South, (depending which end The Kop is at) East and West Stand.

We'll miss Anfield though  :(

Moving to a new venue is somewhat problematic for a club with tradition.

In Istanbul, Galatasaray has the same problem. There' s a stadium project; we will give our legendary ''Ali Sami Yen Stadium'' to the government and they' ll pay for our new football stadium with 52.000 capacity. The new stadium won' t be in the middle of the city, on the other hand we' ll have our capacity doubled with more appropriate parking lots and extra facilities. Local subway line will be retouched to reach the new venue, so transportation won' t be a problem.

It seems all good up to here, yet club board is hungry to sell the naming rights for extra funds. We do not like to change our stadium' s name, because ''Ali Sami Yen'' is the name of Galatasaray' s founder. We think, there' s no money to buy it. However, today' s football as an industry forces clubs to sell everything that they can. So; our new venue will probably be named as ''Something Arena'' too.

Shalke 04 of Germany maybe the best example of the situation. Their VELTINS Arena cost €196M. Beer distiller company Veltins pays extraordinary €120M for the naming right of the stadium. After several years; now they sell the main stand' s naming rights and the team' s shirt advertisement for 10 years to Russian Oil Company Gazprom for €90M. The sum is an extraordinary €210M. No sportsclub can regret such an amount.

Problem is common. For me; whatever the new naming is; LFC' s venue is Anfield with its legendary KOP. This' s the same for my Galatasaray' s new venue; I don' t mind its commercial name; my team' s venue will always be Ali Sami Yen for me!..

P.S.: D.I.C. Arena will be the worst of possible names for LFC. I prey for another name!..
There' s Nothing Impossible In The Lands of Galatasaray.

Agree New Anfield should be the new stadium's name, can't see it happening though as I think money will dictate that a sponsor gets their name on it.

what about " The Dubai International Anfield Stadium". Its got a good ring to it me thinks
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.
