Morgan withdraws his bid - Looks like we're going thai

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Moores/parry are frightened of losing control of their "empire" they claim to have the interest of LFC at heart?..well from what i have seen and heard they are only interestedin their own selfish ambitions. Moores is proving what i always beleived, and that is he is a man motivated by his own self interests, and greed, if he truly loved LFC then he would of sacked GH by now, and appointed a new manager and given a local buisiness man and life long LFC fan the chance of helping our great club back to where we belong, but moores has other things on his mind like how to make more money for himself, he rules the board room thats why no one has the gaul to openly question his decisions. Thats why we are in this mess coz this board of ours wont take, or make recomendations that will take us onwards instead of in decline. I think morres/parry are about to make another mistake one which we may regret?....by ignoring everyone elses veiws, and pressing on with this thai dictators offer we will soon be selling roasted "dog" on skewers in the food outlets in anfield if this repressor of rights gets his way!!. :(

I can't profess to have much understanding of the business/financial side of Morgan's offer so maybe there's something fundamentally flawed on that side as far as the board are concerned, we'll just have to take their word for that. But surely Morgan (as a lifelong LFC supporter) wouldn't put a deal on the table which was bad for us in a financial sense??! My gut feeling is that his proposal was good for the club, and Moores turned it down cos it wasn't good for him. Simple. Sad.  :(

Telegraph
Pressure on Moores
By Sam Wallace and Christopher Davies
(Filed: 22/05/2004)

The Liverpool chairman, David Moores, came under further pressure last night when it emerged that he could pocket as much as £30 million from the deal with Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra after another day in which the board stayed silent on the future of manager Gerard Houllier.

Moores, who has been in charge at the club since 1991, is understood to have put around £10 million into Liverpool through either share-buying or investments over the past 13 years. However, the deal with Shinawatra, which has hit problems recently, would have seen him re-coup around double that amount.

..........................................................................

So Liverpool`s big benefactor Moores is making double the money he ever put in by accepting the Thai bid(plus holding on to control of the club). This deal is beginning to stink.

Yes I read it too. If that is true then all these behind the scene "negotiation" really stinks!

However, I believe the Thai investment are for new shares issue, that means all the £60M were to be pump back into the club, and not to buy back any existing shares. Am I correct on this? Can somebody clarify?

Agreed with most of you above re: Moores putting his self-interest before the club. It is also possible the club might be floated sometime down the line (as pointed out by supersub), isn't that why we brought in Rick Perry from his Premiership hotseat in the first place? If that is the plan, and the club is successful then those in power will stand to gain and would have lined their pocket pretty well, and hence Moores current stand.

As for Thai's bid, I believe all signs are pointing towards the wrong direction. Why would a businessman/politician, with very little knowledge of football, let alone English football and specifically Liverpool FC would want to invest ? On top of this, he is not using his own money as he initially claimed to do, but are using the blood and sweat money from the ordinary Thai tax paying public. It is also very clear that this investment is design to leave the Thai citizen with a "feel-good" factor ahead of the upcoming general election (read: politically motivated).  If Thaksin is serious about investing into the club, he should use his own money, which is entirelly within his capability. So as I said earlier, the whole idea behind Thaksin's plan is wrong.

However, please don't use his human rights records per se to reject his bid. Granted, Thaksin is no saint (and I disagree with his governing style) and the source of his fortune are questionable, but his human rights record is not as bad as some reports would want you to believe. Crack down at the south of Thailand, mass killing of innocents etc etc these have been blown way out of proportion.

Too bad now the club is left with very little choice and we as fans would not be able to do anything about it.

This is a very important turning point in the clubs history.  Personally, I've turned to prayer and hope god will step in and guide the board to make the right decision that will bring back the title.

I'm praying David Moores swallows humble pie and goes to Steve Morgan with the begging bowl.

Supersub I totally agree with you Morgan is our only hope, he has real ambition and monety to invest, he motivation is his love for the club, lets face if he wanted to make money he could invest elsewhere. Moores is being totally selfish, he knows the Thaksin allows him to retain control of the club via proxy voting, the Morgan deal will no doubt lead to him sooner or later taking over.  Moores needs to do whats right for Liverpool FC even if that means eventually surrendering his role as chairman.  The Thai deal could lead to the biggest mistake ever made, especially as it means that a country would own 30% of Liverpool.  For goodness sake why don't the board sell the fans 30% I'm absolutely positive we would stump up as much cash as A lottery in Thailand, the only difference would be most of us would'nt tolerate the absymal failure in the League, It is'nt that important to a soccer mad country 8000 miles away being part of Liverpool is enough for them.  Moores needs todo a bit of soul searching and then do whats right for Liverpool FC, The people of Liverpool, and the fans everywhere.

I'm worried it can all go tits-up,followed by Owen and stevie G moving on because the board lack the funds and ambition to launch any kind of threat to the top 3.
