Morgan wins race - Money for players

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

From today's Sunday Mirror:

REDS CLOSE ON £70MILLION DEAL
Dec 19 2004
By Paul Smith
STEVE MORGAN is poised to agree a £70million investment in Liverpool.
The lifelong Reds fan has been knocking on the door for months and there are suggestions the building magnate has finally made an offer to buy into the club that the board is prepared to accept.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry said: "We want to sort it out as soon as we can because what we're looking for going forward is some certainty and stability. What we don't want is continuing uncertainty and speculation. It's urgent to get it right.

"The period for trawling around is coming to an end. It has been fairly widely publicised over the course of nine months that we're looking for investment.

"You could go on looking for the right investor to magically appear. I think you go with those who appear - and probably they would have appeared by now."

I reckon this means a £15m Christmas present for Rafa to spend on new players !!

I'd prefer the L4 group, an £15m for new players is f**k all cos either Anelka or Morietes is going to cost about £8m and we want about 3 new players so I'd be hoping closer to £20m :;):

I'm amazed at how many fans on here are so comfortable with a bunch of yanks taking over our club. I'd much rather have Morgan on board, despite his gobby wife: do we wanna become a side-franchise of the New England Patriots and running round with 'KRAFT' on our shirts?

****** those yanks off. Keep the club English.

We are not questioning his intentions, just his ability to carry them out, and whether he might be jumpy and irrational. We don't need a Daniel Levy or a Rupert Lowe, we have to get it right.

Whomever takes a large stake in the club, the executive management must be restructured because let's not forget that it is under the management of Moores asn the Chairman, and Parry as the Chief Executive (who knows the intimate day to day details of the club's affairs) who are presiding when we made that record loss, bought the bogus and expensive but useless players, gave Houllier their support for the transfers, gave Houllier and his assistants the lucrative contract extension and when the pressure from the fans became too much, turned around and sacked him but still cost the club some 10 million in compensation payments.

Just cos he's through and through doesn't mean he's got enough money to buy decent players and for the new ground, the L4 group will though.

You only have to look at Bill Kenwright, yeah ok he's a through and through blue but he had to remortgage his house to buy the club and that why they don't have the money to bring in quality players.

Is that 15 mil only, or 15 plus what they make on CL progression? If it was 15 million extra, that will be nice.
