Right now I'd say 5th, but hoping for a top 4 finish.
Our defense is just nowhere near top 4 material though.

to get back into the top 4 and win a cup. with no european distractions this season this is what i expect. there can be no excuses with our improved strength in depth this season. get a centre half and a left back and we're well sorted imo.

I feel very uncertain about our prospects and our new players, part of me thinks we'll find it very hard to get back in the top four, on the other hand if we get a good start and the momentum gets going, we could even stage a challenge. I think logically we should be better than last season, Suaraz, Carroll and Downing certainly improve our team and with Kennys motivation I'm hoping and expecting that we are more than good enough for 14 of the 18 teams, and then it comes down to the games against city, Manu,
Chelsea and arsenal.

If we end up buying a top CB and a top LB in the transfer window, then 4th is being realistic, but if we don't then we are in big trouble

Minimum is 4th, anything below that and we have to be hugely disappointed.  Kenny would have failed imo if we don't get 4th, that may sound harsh but he's been completely 100% backed by the owners and if he can't manage 4th I am sure he would consider it a failure as well.

My minimum expectation is not in the poll..... 17th!  :p

I want to see growth and improvement. We will not win the league next year; it is not going to happen. Top 6 would for me be a good achievement and top 4 fantastic.

Anything above that would be a miracle considering the past few years.

I dont get the people saying that failing to get in the top four would be a disaster.. it would not be. Sure, I would be dissapointed but we need to manage our expectations here.

We could do it, but a lot of things need to go right for it to happen.

Given the players we had/have and the money spent in the last 6 or so months, a top4 spot should be a minimum requirement I would imagine...
HOWEVER, our transfers (Suarez aside) have been largely disappointing imo. We have failed to sign players for positions we really need to improve on (CB, LB, backup FW & DM), and we have massively overspent on players who (at least on paper) dont add that much to our starting 11 (Henderson, Adam, Carroll and even Downing)..
As far as i can tell, we still lack creativity and flair despite signing 3 attacking midfielders .. we are no better defensively than we were last season... Upfront we still rely on Ngog as cover and that is simply not good enough at the highest level...

I think our transfers overall will go a long way in determining where we end up in the league, and that in all honestly doesnt leave me too optimistic about our chances of getting a top4 spot...

Expectation: 6th

I hope think we can finish top 4 and that should be the aim, but were not gonna finish any higher than fourth with this squad. If were honest with ourselves most of our team is particuarly talented, Man City, Man utd and Chelsea have much better players

I agree with most of what you say but I still think we will be among the teams fighting for the fourth spot if Suarez stays fit. We desperately need to buy some quality defenders. If we have to sell before we buy now we made a huge mistake in the transfer market. We should have made defenders a priority.

How anyone can say anything other than 4th as a minimum, especially considering the last two seasons finishes!

Whoever voted 2nd as a minimum expectation is deluded.

Do you know what im just gonna wait an see how Aguero pans out at City .

I tell you what, if that team gels they will win the league with their eyes closed. Aguero is phenominal - he is twice as good as Tevez and he could well be the best player in the Premiership, if he adapts and settles.

Absolutely gutted we didn't sign him for the same price as Carroll. :no

Keep in mind that Aguero will make about 130,000 more per week in wages.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Sadly agree with this, and also agree with Lando, Man City look VERY strong all over the park, their defense is immense and made Milan look like fools.

Its going to be a very hard season, simply cannot see us getting 4th, Scum, Chavski and Shitty will be above us, unless by some miracle we pull it off.

All my bets are hedged on how Suarez performs, if he clicks into gear straight away we may just have a chance, Downing also is looking a very good player, hes all over the park, just wish we could keep Aqua, especially as SG is out now for a while, After Suarez and Reina, Aqua would be next on my sheet for Sunderland (if he plays like he has in pre season).

and that's why we never were in for him. Add a signing on fee of millions and he's an exspensive talent that's unproven in this league.

I'm sure he'll shine, he's class after all, but there's no way our owners would pay someone 200,000 grand a week!

It seems all the pressure of replacing Gerrard-Torres is being put on Suarez now... It's kind of funny because the way I see it, the management didnt even try to bring in players who would complement Suarez's style of play. If anything, with players like Downing, Adam, Kuyt, Gerrard, and Carroll in the side we'll most probably have to move Suarez from his CF position to a wide position or a second striker role... Other options would either include benching Gerrard /Adam & Henderson / Carroll...etc

It seems we're moving towards a more direct style of play with long balls and crosses aimed towards Carroll rather than short passes and through balls played for/through Suarez...

I guess we'll wait and see if it works or not, but I'd be very surprised if we play both Carroll and Suarez in the starting lineup week in week out..
