Milk cup - LIVERPOOL VS CARDIFF - Match thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The sweat box at Liverpool used to be quite famous, all it was, was wooden boards to smash the ball against. Shankly said that 2 mins was about at long as most players could keep it up, but that Roger Hunt could manage 4 mins. So I am not too sure where the touch improvement comes in but obviously Toshack knows much better than me.

He was actually quite skillful for (in those days) such a big man. He lost a hell of a lot of pace and mobility early on with a bad thigh(?) injury. We tried to offload him about 4 years after he signed but he failed the medical (luckily for us). He never played that many games a season due to his injury problems from what I can remember, but was a great target man and always a goal threat and not just in the air either.

He was vital to the team as we won the league in 1973, as our best weapon was a huge boot from Clemence "Wimbledon style" up to Toshack and Keegan. I remember he made one of Keegan goals against Leicester in the cup semi replay the following season with an incredible flick on, (Leicester where a great team at the time)I think he managed to score as well but I may be wrong. Made one of the goals for Heighway in the final against Newcastle as well.

I am pretty sure we would have completed an awesome treble in '77 if he hadn't been injured before the final against the mancs. It was rumoured he would be fit for the European Cup final but he never made it.

He used to have a sports shop in partnership with Emlyn Hughes when he first came, don't know if its still going?

Sorry I think I posted this in the wrong thread..... its all Sabre's fault  :D

Sorry

I've looked. Doesn't seem to be any, and there won't be as it's not being shown on any TV station. Looks like radio is the only thing going. And I think it's being shown on LFC TV at 12.

From .tv

The Liverpool team in full is: Itandje, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hobbs, Leto, El Zhar, Gerrard, Lucas, Babel, Crouch. Subs: Martin, Riise, Kewell, Benayoun, Mascherano.

Babel and Crouch up top?  Very interesting! :nod

Well if that's the team, as far as Crouch is concerned we are either getting him revved up for the weekend or his exile is continuing it's hard to tell. I would actually have played a firsat choice team of course but that's just me obviously.

It was only my best guess Bigmick

Damn I thought I had it this time :(  let down with Aurellio and Gerrard. Still I got El Zhar who hopefully will play up top with Crouch rather than Babel   :nod

Jack Hobbs will go head-to-head with Robbie Fowler tonight in his first competitive start for Liverpool.
The 19-year-old lines-up alongside Jamie Carragher at centre-back, with Ryan Babel partnering Peter Crouch up front.

Steven Gerrard is also present, while Nabil El Zhar gets his first start of the season. Long-term absentee Harry Kewell is on the bench.

babel and crouch it is :p

I like Rafa's balance, hope that Stevie is off at halftime
                          Itandje
   Arbeloa      Carra        Hobbs       Aurelio
El Zhar        Gerrard      Lucas       Leto
                                  Babel
                     Crouch

I would expect kewell to be one of the subs.  Surprised Mascherano is on the bench considering his knock against Arsenal, why not put momo in the squad?

Momo was ill before the Arsenal game, maybe still bad?
