kewell might start but don't bank on it , he might use him for the blackburn game or maybe just throw him into this match to regain match fitness , either way we should win even with itandje playing in goal .. If we lose , then ermm no comments

Personally I hope we go out in a glorious gift match to Cardiff and a hatrick by the lad.

Then we can knuckle down, get back to basics and focus on the league.

I would go for:

                   Itandje

Spearing  Hobbs    Huth    Insua

El Zhar     Lucas   Sissoko  Kewell

              Crouch    Babel

TBH I'm really not too bothered if we get knocked out of this one, and have said from the start of the season that I want us to take the Arsenal approcach & put our kids out in this competition. The league is the priority this season, give all the main players a rest before Saturday, especially seeing as with the injuries we have they won't get rotated as much.

Last year against Reading in the Carling Cup Rafa Picked:

5 Jose Reina (G)
5 Daniel Agger (D)
29 Gabriel Paletta (D)
37 Lee Peltier (M)
16 Jermaine Pennant (M)
6 John Arne Riise (M) (M)
22 Mohamed Sissoko (M)
28 Stephen Warnock (M)
32 Boudewijn Zenden (M)
15 Peter Crouch (S)
9 Robbie Fowler (S)
Substitutes
40 David Martin (G)
23 Jamie Carragher (D)
35 Danny Guthrie (D)
45 James Smith (D)
18 Dirk Kuyt (S)

and against Birmingham:
(G) Jerzy Dudek 1
(D) Daniel Agger 5
(D) Gabriel Paletta 29
(D) Lee Peltier 37
(D) Stephen Warnock 28
(M) Mark Gonzalez 11
(M) Jermaine Pennant 16
(M) Mohamed Sissoko 22
(M) Boudewijn Zenden 32
(S) Craig Bellamy 17
(S) Robbie Fowler 9
Substitutes
(G) David Martin 40
(D) Jamie Carragher 23
(D) Danny Guthrie 35
M) Xabi Alonso 14
(S) Dirk Kuyt 18

Precedent seems to point to Itandje in Goal (i think Reina played the first game because Dudek got in a fight in a reserve game.

Maybe Arbeloa could be somewhere in the back line, but I think most on here would like to see Hobbs get a chance at centre half. Insua is the new Paletta I guess (hopefully only in similar in country of origin) Seems like Agger still isn't fit, so maybe Arbeloa and Hobbs in the centre and Darby on the Right and then one of Aurelio (if fit) Insua, or Threlfall (I wonder what has happened to him, dont hear much about him from reserve games)

Leto would seem to be the new gonzalez, but I could see Kewell getting the start, maybe playing one of them on the right, and Momo and Lucas in the middle of the park seems an obvious pick

And 3rd and 4th choice strikers this year seem to be Crouch and Voronin

It will be great to see God back home, and thats about as far as my interest in this meaningless competition goes.

I hope he gives all the kids and fringe players a run out and I will watch it because it is Liverpool and I don't have a Paint ball game to play  :p , 99% of the time I want us to win and we will but this is the 1% I couldn't care less
