Gerrard, Hamann, Alonso, Sissoko, Gonzales, Luis Garcia, Kewell, Riise, Zenden and possibly Figo.

Show me a better collection of midfielders in the Premiership than that?  ???

Hamman/Alonso - Makelele (for 2 because he is simply the best DMF in the world)

Gerrard - Lampard

Zenden - Robben / Duff

Garcia - Joe Cole / Duff

Risse (lb) - Del Horno (you might have not seen him play, I have and you will realize what a player he is once the league starts)

Sisoko - Tiago (They are both decent players, none world class but both useful)

Kewell!!!! - haha - Jhonson will do here or Huth.

Not to mention Jiri, Geremi, Essien/SWP (possibly)

Dont get me wrong, I think you have a great squad. But in all honesty we do have players who are better than Gerrard,Hamman and Aonso. We also have the best wingers in the Prem. The brightest prospect in Joe Cole.

I think Alonso is a more complete player than Gerrard. But I think Lampard is the best out of the 3.
Robben is just unstopable - the best winger in the league - probably the best in the world on the left.
Makelele is just a master of the game.
Duff is another super player, one reason why Liverpool want to sign him.
Cole showed what he can do 2nd half of last season, and im sure he will be as good if not better this season.

-

From the players you mentioned ' Gerrard, Hamann, Alonso, Sissoko, Gonzales, Luis Garcia, Kewell, Riise, Zenden and possibly Figo.'

IMHO

Hamann - pure class.
Alonso - Will be the rock next season, i love the player.
Gerrard - a bit single minded, no doubt about ability, but needs to stop the 40yard passes
Garcia - Super lil player, similar to J.Cole in a way, but not as fast or strong, but makes up for that in his intellectual approach.
Zenden - Former Chelsea, no one doubts his ability, was a great player .. still has it in him.
Risse - Like him, but IMO should be used as LB.
Figo - One of my favourite players .. simply adore him .. leaves me speachless sometimes with his movement on and off the ball - i hope you sign him.
Kewell - Joke!

Sisoko ,Gonzales - Dont know MUCH so not fair to comment.

All the best for next season.

Cheers

Agree with you on some and disagree on others. Stevie is the best of the 3 mentioned but by his standards had a hit and miss season so Lampard probably looked better although isn't.

The main point i think people are trying to get across though m8 is that last season if we compared our 2 squads it would have been a complete mismatch but if you look at them now as you just have i think we are starting to see a more even match player for player.

If you think about the money you've spent compared to us this is a remarkable achievement by Rafa :bowdown . If this means we can break into the top 3 or better still mount a reasonable title challenge then i for one will be ecstatic.

Have to disagree, i think that we WILL see many changes to personnel throughout the season, Rafa tends to change the players and formation in relation to the opposition (which i like) as we wont become predictable and easy to play against.

the size of the midfield is good, theres more competition for places and is what we have needed for ages, usind joe cole as an example, broke into the chelsea team second half of last season and has become a superb player than what he was when he first arrived, it proves that competition is a good thing, and that if players such as hamman, kewell etc. dont like being used in the rotational system and arent up for competing for a first team place then fuc#ing get rid of them, thats what i say!

I think thats a fair point.  When he said 'show me a better midfield in the premiership' i admit i thought to myself 'Chelsea aside' I still think theres enough quality there to give Arsenal and Man U a good kicking :D

real fan from abroad wrote:you all talking about backup and that the big squad is good for us, but you don"t get my point.
In the optimistic way big squad is good because we have backup and big squad brings compititon for the first team, but in the pasimistic way big squad can frastrate players who aren't playing and this frastretion can bring to bad play and then it is the problem of the hole team(for example Kezman).

Not sure about your point there mate,  i dont think a frustrated Kezman had much effect on Chelsea last season
If we end up with a disgruntled midfielder  at end of season who didnt get to play enough but also had the League title, league cup and CL semi finalist , hell i take it

Great article. Definitely worth reading.

I like the expression: " Liverpool midfield is starting to look rather phenomenal. "
