Michael owen - Up to his usual tricks again

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I have heard that Rafa and Parry have fallen out over this.  Parry want Owen but Rafa doesnt. i tink if Rafa doesn't want him it must surely mean he has somone lined up, probably involved in La Liga which is why nothing is being said.  Just my opinion anyway!
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Which ever wa you look at it, If We buy Owen, its a risk. If we buy Forlan, its a risk, If we Buy Milto, its a risk. There is no striker 100% Guarenteed to score 20 - 30 a season. Im of the opinion that Owen wil score 20 a season if hes fit. But thats where the risk comes into it, Will he stay fit? Forlan, Milito, And whoever else may come in may not settle. Thats a risk. No Matter what we do its a risk.  God i love saying risk dont I :D

If it wasn't for Owen's goals in the 03/04 season we might not have qualified for the champions league for the following season.

As a footballer he is limited but a pacey(at least he was) great finisher.
But he extremly selfish both on and of the pitch and Rafa loves a forward who can hold up the ball, work hard and put pressure on the opposition. Owen does neither well.
Even if owen has far better footballing skills, Cissé failed at exactly those things.

And looking at owen's past there is no way he'll take any kind of pay cut or play at leass than half of what gerrard will earn.
If he joins he will have to adapt to rafa's system of rotation and not the THE star. If Kuyt, Crouch, bellamy earns 30-50,000/week I can not see Rafa coughing up much more for Owen.

Even if circumstances were different, Rafa has tried twice to get Owen to commit to Liverpool and Owen has for one reason or another opt not to give Rafa a chance.
I'm sure Rafa was very dissapointed when our star striker just decided to leave for peanuts putting Rafa in a big hole. Owen wasn't even replaced that year cause we tried all into August to keep him. Then Rafa tries 1 year later and Owen decides to go to Newcastle cause he didn't want to say he only wanted to go to Liverpool.

Look at Baros. Lyon offered more but baros only wanted the Villa move so we got less. Owen could have done the same, since Real wanted to get rid and owen was on high wages.

2 years later and Owen has played 12 games.
He is no where the player he once was and it will be hard to find a more injure prone player(except maybe Kewell).
The odds of him getting injured is very high and I just don't think it's a good investment.

Not to mention if he leaves he once again show the respect he has for the club he represent. NONE

I think the Baros analagy is a completely different situation - we wanted to get rid, it was made clear that he had no future here.

Real Madrid didn't necessarily want to get rid of Owen, it was just a freak Newcastle bid that tempted them.

Owen could have rejected the Newcastle deal and waited until the January window, but at the time Real Madrid would not have accepted anything less than what Newcastle were offering.

To be fair to Owen he (like all great Liverpool strikers) always did his share of pressing when the opposition had the ball in ther own half.

Also, to compare Owen to Cisse is way off the mark. Owen was and always will be a far more complete player than Cisse. Despite the fact they share some similar attributes (pace, playing on the shoulder, liking the ball in front of them) Cisse's game intelligence and decision making were simply terrible, he couldn't play with his back to goal (Owen is better here again) and his first touch often let him down.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - We should sign Owen.
Owen is tried and tested and would love to come back to us. Who cares if he is selfish? He's got Liverpool closer to his heart than Henry, Eto'o, Villa, Torres, Tevez etc. Nobody seems to have as much problem when they are linked with the club.
