Liverpool target set for Bayern stay
11:30 February, 18, 2005
Liverpool are believed to be keen on Michael Ballack, yet the German international looks likely to stay with Bayern Munich.

The midfielder has just eighteen months left on his existing contract with the German giants, and Liverpool are reportedly lining up a summer bid to entice him to England.

However, Ballack - also wanted by Barcelona - looks set to resist any temptations of leaving on a Bosman transfer by signing a new deal with Bayern at the end of the current season.

"I do not think that it will come to me deciding directly after the 2006 World Cup whether I want to stay or go," Ballack said. "I will either choose a new challenge or say: 'I feel good here and would like to extend my contract.'"

Seem to recall we were linked with Ballack towards the back end of Houllier's reign.

I think he is a top class player who would fit in well at Liverpool.  Always rated him.

Past his prime. He's 29 (born 1976) this year. His best forms was when he's 24-25. We dun need midfield players now. Alonso, Gerrard, Riise, Nunez should form nicely. The ageing Hamann should be used as a backup.

Our defence is where players are needed. Time to let Whitbread play a more prominent role like what Chelsea did with Robert Huth prior to his injury

I think Aimar would be a better choice.
