One of the few players we had that seemed to be genuinely comfortable playing with the ball on the deck and we are letting him go? Guess Brendan doesnt fancy him contributing significantly next season but if it was up to me Id have been holding onto him for another 12 months. Maybe his age counted against him under the Fenway philosophy of promoting youth? Good luck anyway Maxi thanks for those hattricks in Dalglish's first season when we were playing some wonder fuseball.

Rogers said he wanted to keep Maxi.  Maxi decided to go tho, and that's completely understandable considering the role he's had at the club the last few seasons, and he's getting older and probably happy to move back home to Argentina.

One of the most underrated players at the club the past couple of years by fans and managers alike. He's a player we'll need to replace and with both Maxi and Kuyt gone, we're starting to look even shorter on goals from midfield for next season.

All the best Maxi and thanks for the memories.

One of many players who suffered under the Kenny debacle.
No surprise seeing him leaving considering how little he was playing.

Totally agree, and really wish we could have held onto for another season or two. We don't seem to be building the squad at all so far.

at first i thought we might regret letting the likes of kuyt and maxi go as we have got potentially a lot of cup fixtures to fulfill next season but thinking about it it may not neccessarily be such a bad thing if we dont bring anyone in to directlly replace them. maybe rodgers is planning on giving the likes of suso, sterling, pacheco, texiera, adorjan, robinson etc a chance to show what they can do in the cups. maybe having so many experienced `squad` type players at the club over the past few years has got in the way of player development.

Could not agree more.
I really thought he would be a player that would fit perfectly in b-rods system but i guess FSG thinks he is too old.

Good luck Maxi and thanks for the memories.

He had a tough start to his LFC career having joined us in the middle of our great decline but, eventually, under the right managament, he proved himself a capable link player, who had a touch of invention in his play and a knack for scoring important goals. That was most evident during Kennys first six months when his ability to link with the likes of Suarez, Meireles and Lucas transformed us into one of the best attacking sides in the league. To then not use him in the following season when the likes of Henderson and Downing were underperfoming is one of the reasons we fell so far behind in the league. And, if instead of giving priority to young, inexperienced, homegrown players we had built on the achievements made during that good six month spell and stuck with players like Maxi, there's a good chance Kenny would still be our manager.

All in all he was a decent player, and someone who may have been a good fit for the Rodgers system, though at the same time, IMO, not someone so special that we should have too much difficulty finding a replacement.

MAXI'S LAST SUPPER

The Argentine ace sealed his move to Newell's Old Boys in Argentina on Friday, and his pals made sure he had a farewell to remember.

Lucas Leiva, Jose Enrique and Daniel Pacheco treated the popular midfielder to a meal and a fantastic night was had by all.

Tweeting this brilliant picture above, Pacheco said: "What a lovely night we had. We will miss you. All the best for you and yours. Health and happyness."
