Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 7_Kewell » Sat Sep 24, 2005 11:57 pm

People seem to forget we hit the post and had the ball cleared off the line twice.  Crouch should have scored and Renia SHOULD have stopped at least ONE of those goals.  We could have won 4-2 today and thats including our periods of poor performance.  We were a little unlukly and a little poor today.....sadly that results in a draw.  :glare:

Lakes you're a joke lad.

A Fucking Joke.

Absoloute scum.

People like you aren't real Liverpool fans. We've just won the European cup for gods sake. We are the champions of Europe. Do you have any idea what that means? Do you not feel any pride at all? I'm sorry, but you aren't a true Liverpool fan.

Rafa has made serious mistakes in the league, he still is doing. So what? He's won the European cup, he's allowed to do what the :censored: he wants for the next few years, he's even making progress, not how i would do it, but you're a fickle gobs*i*e if you won't even give the man a chance.

Note: I am perfectly calm and not ranting. :)

It IS a bit like the GH situation, we win a treble which included a then heralded eufa cup, but when all said and done played some pretty boring footy( barca away anyone?) rafa has won the biggest of the lot but I have to say that I took a bit of stick watchin the 1st half today. We are at an uncomfortable position here, we've some dynamite players dampened with all too familiar tactics, " but we are euro champions" and this is true, but some of our footy is p.iss poor at times. I have no answers to my concerns, but I DO believe that substance and effort will prevail, though some showboat footy would'nt go amiss.

CF, always thought you talk sense or at least understand the game well...huh, I ought to know better. You don't watch your team (either at the game or on TV), discuss the game at your own forum or even have a slightest clue on how the game was played.

I'll take the liberty of profiling you...(1) you lived in another country and Chelsea's game was not on TV today that's why you spent your time on this forum (2) that you used to be a Liverpool fan but now choose to support Chelsea because they are the "in" team at the moment (guessed you are one of those who used to support Blackburn from years ago when they were on top huh?)

Enough, now pack your bag and go fcvk off...  :veryangry

Ido not like the way he is making us play, i dont like the players that he has put in the team..apart from 2.
if we win the two games in hand we are still 8 points off the top....and that only after 7 games.

I know for a fact that i am not the onluy on to feel like this but it serams that i am the only one that has the guts to come out and say it on this forum....the rest of you sneek off and post on other forums under new names saying almost the same as me.

No, I disagree with that Lakes. I don't think anything can be achieved by fans throwing their toys out of the pram at this stage.

The reality is that the two teams who dominated the Premiership for ten years, Manchester United and Arsenal, are struggling to cope with the deus ex machina that is Roman Abramovich's Chelsea. They have come entirely out of left of field and have utterly and fundamentally changed the football landscape in England.

Rafa Benitez' brief is far harder and infinitely more complex than say, Gerrard Houllier's, when Houllier was appointed as manager. Houllier had a brilliant Man UTD and an excellent Arsenal team to deal with, whereas Benitez has both of those and a Chelsea team that are probably at least two levels higher than Man UTD and Arsenal.

Arsenal have a brilliant team and yet they are struggling desperately in Chelsea's slipstream.

There is no magic wand which will fix our league form overnight. Turning dreadful 0-2 away defeats in 2-2 all draws is substantial progress.

Cheers JBG!!!
A few great posts there that helped me look at things from a different angle!
I dont feel so bad about things now!
Thanks  fella!!

Lakes has been calling for Rafa's head since he's arrived. He's still under the illusion that the likes Curbeshly could do better.

Right thats it. From now on I stick to words of one syllabuble, syllamum, syllablub. I'm only going to use little words anyhow.  :D
On topic, I can see the argument about improving on last years results representing progress. I actually believe that we have progressed a bit further than Rafa does, while I thought the Brum team we played yesterday was inferior to the one which beat us twice last season, (Savage was a big loss for them and while being no world-beater, was the heartbeat of their team). I will never think anything other than that game was there to be won yeaterday. All we lacked was a little bravery in selection and a left-hand sided midfielder who isn't garbage. If Zenden is a better bet on the left than Riise then I'm watching a different sport to everybody else.

Some interesting points of views whether Rafa is doing a good job or not. Personally, the benchmark is Chelsea, like it or not! They are setting the new standards and nobody knows that more the Man Utd and Arsenal. Rafa knows full well that it is a massive task just to keep within touching distance of Chelsea at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if we finished with about the same points gap as last season.

If Roman hadn't have come in to rescue Chelsea 2 years ago we all know where they would be right now. The only way that we are going to compete at the highest level and on a regular and consistent basis is with major investment. It's that simple! This is Arsenals and Man Utd problem also, and without the funds to compete with Chelsea, it's going be a long time before we can knock them off the top. Imagine if we had bought SWP as our right midfielder in the summer just for example. £21m, we were never going to pay that and I think it will be the same situation in January, when we all start talking about the possibility about Joaquin or whoever joining us for large sums of money. We just don't have the finances and if we don't get new investment in the near future everything will remain the same.

Rafa is a great manager and we have some great players, but he can only do his best with the players that he has at his disposal. We are the European Champions which I still can't believe at times, but we must start playing like champions and whilst we did improve on last seasons result against B/ham yesterday, we should be beating teams of that quality. Rafa needs time and I for one will give him that, but the man needs money to improve the squad, and without it I fear the worst, if Real Madrid keep knocking on his door.

Your thoughts!

Forget Chelsea, forget them. They have won the league already. Our aim should be 2nd, for me that will be like winning the league as Chelsea are just on a level on their own, which in part is effective football and good managerial work form Mourinho, but if anyone believes that money hasn't had a major influence on them getting where they are, they're deluding themselves. The money has allowed them to buy the depth that they currently possess, and "the special one" wouldn't be at Chelsea had it not been for Roman.
Sure clubs like Manure have spent loads in the past, but the difference is that it's a never-ending pit for Chelsea, if a player fails then Roman can replace him no matter what the sum. Some players like Parker were bought and hardly used, then sold off for pittance. The depth and quality they possess is second to none, and if any top club in England had that sort of money with a good quality manger at the helm they would be storming the league ala Chelsea.

Of course they are still beatable, but due to the depth they possess they are going to win the majority of their games, even if the lose the odd game to the likes of ourselves.

If you take Chelsea out of the picture then all is not as bad as it seems. ManU and Arsenal are not setting the world alight, in fact both of them have lost games already this season, unlike us. We are only 3pts behind Arsenal and 4 points behind ManU with a game in hand, and we have probably had the toughest start in terms of fixtures out of the three.

If we can keep up with the likes of ManU and Arsenal for the whole season, and finish in 2nd place then we have done excellently, and IMO this is a very realistic aim.

LFC #1  - i couldnt agree more with that post above. chelsea will drop the odd points here and there but they will win near on every game they play becuase of the depth of their squad. if we are challenging for 2nd and 3rd this season itll be an improvment. and then we'll just have to wait until roman gets bored and nobs off somewere else.

and id say weve had slightly the harder run in so far in the league and were still neck and neck with manure and arsenal, so less of the doom and gloom. this is a bad spell were having, yet we're still picking up points that lat season we wouldnt of. and we're still up there (kinda)
