I can see Alonso and Mashca going, and whoever Rafa  brings in I cant see us improving on last season :(

Do you think players are wanting to leave because of the turmoil surrounding the club ownership, or maybe not liking Rafa??  This is Liverpool Football Club.. one of the biggest football clubs on the planet and our big players want out?  Is this just the way the modern footballer is or is Liverpool Football Club not such a big thing anymore?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

i don't think it has anything to do with the way the club standing is at the moment, these 2 players are looking to move (if they are?) for different reasons

alonso; if it is true he wishes to leave i do think this because of what happened last summer, the way he was being banded about so that we would be able to get barry, he must have been thinking about moving on for the whole season not to get back at rafa but because he knows rafa saw him as second best

mash; well he is a little different as i think this one has a lot to do with his wife not living in england and telling him she never will, that has got to be hard on the fella

it is a shame that it both seems to be happening in the same transfer window but it's just down to bad timing and being unlucky, if they do both go i just hope we get what they are worth so we can look to get some new blood in who i hope will be as good if not better

fingers crossed anyway

I don't see how we can get done badly on this one. Neither of them are in their last year of contract so for Rafa to settle for these low prices would be ludicrous.

Yes form is temporary , class is permanent but for 3 seasons we had yet to see him replicate the form that he did in his first season , than suddenly last season , the xabi alonso of the old returned with a brilliant season , argubably better than his first season with us. Its just that i don't understand why he hasn't come out and said that he not interested with a move , which means he is contemplating the idea . He was a former real sociedad player and moving to madrid will be like torres from athletico going over to real , stevie moving to everton or manure. He is a born and bred basque as well.
If he does go , he's no different from ronaldo , he doesn't have a excuse , being almost sold is not one when he himself knows he wasn't at his best

Let's not forget those "below his best" seasons involved some significant time missed for injuries.  Torres was "below his best" this past season as well, relative to the numbers he put up in his first season for us, but no one really has begrudged him that given his poor luck with injuries.  Yet, Alonso doesn't seem to get the same benefit of the doubt with some.

I have not been around these boards long enough but prior to last seasons form concerning Xabi I remember having a discussion with some of my mates about his form. It was pretty average and we weren't making our opinions of his game from the treatment table. When he was in the side he seemed to be in a comfort zone and laboured through his games. Toff is spot on in my opinion, Alonso was given the rocket up the backside, (whether intentionally or not) from Rafa who was looking to bring in Barry. Nobody will change my opinion on this because Alonso looked a completely different player last season than the player two seasons prior that.

As for the 'nobody begrudging Torres part' strikers are lucky in a sense. Torres can pretty much go missing for 70mins or so in a game but then pops up with a goal or two and his form isn't scrutinised. Same with Michael Owen when he used to play for us, sometimes he was ever so quiet during a game playing on the periphial, but from nowhere pops up and produces a winning goal. As long as Torres's goal scoring form is ticking over his general form will not be considered as important as he is primarily out there to get goals.

maybe this might put an end to some of the mascherano rumours, but i doubt it...

Speaking to radio station Cadena Cope, Laporta said, "Cesc Fabregas has the Barcelona DNA in his body and we know that he wants to play for this club."

"At the moment he is the leader at Arsenal and a very important player for them. But Cesc is wanted by me, by the coach Pep Guardiola  and by the sport director Txiki Begiristain.

“We are concentrating all of our efforts on it, but at the same time we have a lot of respect for Arsenal. We have positive relations with Arsenal so it will not be an easy topic to talk to them about.”

surely if they've got Xavi, Iniesta, Toure and maybe Fabregas they wouldn't need Masch?

My only hope is this saga doesn't drag on and if one or the other or (god no) both go then it happens quickly giving Rafa time to source and secure a suitable replacement or replacements. I'm not enjoying this summer transfer window too much with 2 of our key players talked about daily!!

I see Kaka (who's only been there five minutes) is the latest player to start shouting his mouth off about how he'd love Xabi in Madrid.

Next we'll have Christiano Ronaldo coming out saying he's a huge fan of Liverpool and Xabi Alonso is his favourite player, can't wait for that one.  ???

Did he!! This is just RM's "underhand" approach to get Xabi. RM tells their players to go on national TV, radio, whatever... talk about yourself and RM, and then mention how you'd love to have Xabi at RM..... Bas**rds. I guess this tactic only puts more pressure on Xabi- hearing all this love from RM. F**koff RM.
