Im pretty sure Xabi is a model pro and you only have to look at his performances last season after what happened during the summer to see that he would do his job to the highest of his abilities no matter what .

Yes there is no smoke without fire but the fire is coming from Madrid Directors and the press is leaping on it ignoring the water that Rafa is putting on those fires .
Masher has stated while its great to be linked to teams like Barce and Madrid and he would prefer Barce he has also stated he loves being at Liverpool yet bloggers and reports conviently leave that bit out because it would ruin a good headline.

Football FanCast guest columnist Thomas Kelly couldn't care less if Mascherano never played for Liverpool again.
Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age, but I have just about had my fill of the conduct from the likes of Alonso and Mascherano in recent weeks. The latter in particular riles me greatly and it's clear that the fine that Rafa gave Javier, with regards to speculating about his future has had any impact on him. He can't stop talking about it and I have reached the point where I couldn't care less if he stays or goes.
His latest instalment speaking to Don Balon:
"I am very proud and thankful for the interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. It's good for me to have these two teams interested in me,"
"Both teams are very important, but at this moment I think that Barcelona is a little bit better and that's why they've won all that they have."
Thanks for letting us know Javier and glad you didn't feel the need to mention as to what an important football club you are currently at, who pay you well and who you are currently under contract with. Talking about other clubs shows a complete lack of respect to everyone associated at Liverpool football club, especially the manager who was hoping this summer to just put the finishing touches to the squad ahead of next season's challenge.
Unfortunately the speculation puts everyone in an awkward position and suddenly Rafa is left with a dilemma as to what he now does with regards to Javier's future. Does he sit back and hope that neither Barcelona or Real Madrid make a bid, which will obviously tempt the player, or does he actively look to sell him as soon as possible so he can get a suitable replacement in ahead of pre-season. It is the kind of problem that Benitez shouldn't have to face, but that shows player loyalty for you.
Personally I would sell Mascherano, because if he is not committed to the football club then in the long run we are best off without him. This is not the first time he has felt the need to pass comment on other teams and with reports that his agent Walter Tamer has been having meetings with officials at Barca; he obviously feels that his future must lie away from Anfield. It would be a grave shame to lose him, but there is no point in keeping players whose heart is obviously elsewhere.
