Two great midfielders but if I was forced to choose I would pick Mascherano. Every time I see him play he impresses me more, and I think he is still to reach his peak.

as much as I like alonso... I picked masherano... because I think that he will be more compatible with gerrard... mascherano hussles opponents more than alonso... if he has a good game, he will be everywhere tackling and winning balls... his passing and ball control is not bad either... yeah so masherano wins my vote... but I admit we need to see him more...

Gerrard is not a given, although lots of the time he will be, he will need to be rested if we are to get the best out of him, last season shows why he needs to have breaks.

But they're still competing for the same position mate, they certainly won't be popping up anywhere else on the team this season. Am just saying it's worth debating when you seemed to imply it wasn't. I'd expect Gerrard to be a given for most of the Premiership games this season and imagine he will be rested a little more in the Champions league as Rafa has done before. Of course he might play a few games on the right in which case Alonso and Masch will get a run out in the middle together. If Rafa goes 4-4-2 i am expecting it to be Gerrard plus either Sissoko,Alonso or Mascherano for the majority of games. No doubt we will also see all three playing at times if Rafa goes with just one up front.

Mascherano is a top player but he is not in Alonso class IMO. I would play Alonso in most games as he offers more in terms of keeping possesion, tempo, creativity, goal threat and finding space. Basically were more likely to score a goal when he is on the pitch. Mascherano is better at shielding the defence and tackling, but offers little attacking the goal, and his passing is not of the same standard.

To be honest i dont think it really matters who is better as both players will get plenty of games this season, and a lot the time together i would think as Gerrard will be rested occasionally and im sure there will games when Rafa will play all three together. Either it is a great selection headache for the boss as all three are top quality and i think would walk into ANY other team in the premiership.

I havent been to Anfield for a good few years now (since Heskeys debut to Sunderland). Satisfied are you, this makes your stupid comments valid because your a regular match goer ?

You play the same old card everytime mate and again its quite tedious and laughable.

Tell me, when was the last time you made a decent football discussion to this forum ?

not that i want to get involved in your lovefest but liverpool are on tv every other week sometimes twice a week so it doesnt really matter if you have a season ticket or not because these days people who live in china can see the reds week in week out

i watched every game last season including freindlys yet i only attended 3 matches

i think were all very passionate on here and its all a bit heated at the mo, we all just need to lighten up a bit its just tit for tat.I dont care what anyone thinks i have never been able to afford a season ticket and work saturday to 3pm and have no choice thats just life  but that does'nt make me any less of a supporter because giving any liverpool game on tv i watch it and i very rarely miss a game so that doesn't make me any less of a supporter, i dont think people who attend games are any more of a supporter there just better off and lucky to be able to attend the games.:)
