" Two Chile players sent home for inviting women to hotel room "


SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -Chile striker Reinaldo Navia and midfielder Mark Gonzalez were sent home from Dublin, Ireland after women were found in their hotel room.


The players were kicked off the national touring squad with the approval of head coach Nelson Acosta, Chile soccer federation president Reinaldo Sanchez told Santiago's Radio Cooperativa on Friday.


Gonzalez played for Real Sociedad of Spain this season but has been contracted by Liverpool, where he was expected to play next season, while Navia played for Mexican club America.


Chile opened its European tour with a 1-0 win over Ireland on Wednesday, and will play Ivory Coast in France on Sunday, and Sweden in Stockholm on June 2.

It says something about his character because he has a girlfriend. The lad is still a great footballer and as long as he doesn't get himself into worse problems than this I can't see how his eyes for girls changes anything.

I wouldnt go as far as to say he's a disgrace to all of humanity.

But you cant ignore the fact that he's let alot of people down because of his little "get together".

I usually dont assume the worst from people and in this case, I still dont.

But we dont know what really happened in that hotel room and I would leave it at that.

For all I know, he could have just had a party with lots of women and beer and totally forgot about his "bedtime". Sure, sex may have been involved. But then again, I dont know what really went on there, nor will I pass judgement on his character.

All that matters for me is that he will still be able to play for the Reds.
