LIVERPOOL hope to know within days whether their latest application for a work permit for Chile winger Mark Gonzalez has been successful.

They will formally submit their second application for the 21-year-old today, having had a similar bid plus an appeal both rejected during the past 12 months.

Gonzalez, who was recovering from a serious knee injury when Liverpool first applied a year ago, has been on loan at Real Sociedad since January and figured prominently in their fight to avoid relegation from La Liga.

The fact he has shown he can play at the highest level in Spain will also help Liverpool make out a case for him meeting the required criteria for a permit.

Will be interesting to see if that Kalou that Chelsea have just signed gets a work permit. He hasn’t got an EU passport, has never played an international match, and won’t be a first team regular. I really want to know what his status is as he was rejected for Dutch citizenship and is therefore basically a Non EU foreigner. Funny how the press don't mention this isn't it?

   i was thinking the same thing myself though...AND the prospect of kalou gaining a permit first time.  .  two faced
bureaucracy at work?  possibly, though it sounds more like paranoia, id be very surprised if the champions elect of the universe DONT secure permission.

that standard seems higher than ever to aspire to doesnt it. especially when its criteria arent measured by skill or passion but of greed and bitterness....what a job rafa has on his capable hands indeed. belief is one thing, on a level playing field. its a shame some of its participants act as though theyr'e still in the playground. still, we have a lot of confidence. now, who's always saying that........

That will be an interesting thing to keep an eye on...would say a lot about the way money talks if he gets his permit straight away.

On the other hand, I can't see Chelsea being too concerned about it.  I mean, where's the lad going to play in that side?  They'll probably happily loan him back to Feyenoord or wherever until the paperwork's sorted.

Come to think of it.. they do have the arguement that he was a key player in the Feyenoord side last season.
So he could get the permit on that basis.....

Well it's common knowledge that the Spanish league is far beyond the skill of the Dutch one, so if they accept him on that basis, they can't deny Mark's
