This is the type of game that shows how badly we need a real top quality winger.

The_Rock wrote:I actually am quite happy with the performance......Defensively we looked great...and Mash was the monster. He single handedly broke the momentum of the City midfield. (Thats why i think he is better than Alonso..and a great partner with Gerrard).

Think Kuyt looked better as the game went on...... But i still think crouch should play ahead of Kuyt.

Carra was great.

Arbeloa looked great too.

Auerlio looked assured.

Finnan looked as usual competant.

Benayoun had an above average game.....

Torres and Gerrard had a sub-par game. We need another player to take pressure of these guys......Go for Anelka rafa.

As for Babel....i said it once...and i will say it again....he is a waste of $$$...... He is just so predictable..... I know when he is gonna do the step over...i know when he is gonna shoot...and i also know when he is gonna trip over the ball...

Reina - 6/10
Finnan - 6.5/10
Carra - 7.5/10
Arbeloa - 6.8/10
Auerlio - 7/10
Mash - 8/10
Gerrard - 5.5/10
Benayoun - 6.5/10
Kewell - 6/10
Kuyt - 6/10
Torres - 5/10
Babel - 4.5/10

to give Babel a mark out of 10 like that after just 10 mins is laughable not to mention he coincided with our best period of the game and done more in 10 mins than kewell did in 80 mins ha.

:D

It's like this: in any sport, if you fail to take advantage of your rival/opponent's mistakes, then you don't deserve to be a winner. We were handed a lifeline back into the title race and we blew it....again. Same old. We don't deserve the title for that. Perhaps this is why we haven't won it in so long. I can remember countless times where we've been chasing only for this kind of situation to present itself to us. We won't win the title this year because of it. And we won't win it any time soon unless we rectify our ways of doing this.

And for the record, I don't care what anyone says. If a 10 million pound player cannot put the ball in the back of the net from all of four yards out to gift us three very precious points to get us back in the race, then you have to start asking questions why he even cost that much in the first place. You have to ask questions why he's even playing for us. Kuyt should be sold ASAP. If he's still here in January, I'll be very disappointed.

Agreed....Kuyt su@ks....and he is gonna be the downfall of rafa if he rafa persists in playing him. Rafa has to get rid of Kuyt in January ......the longer Kuyt plays with us the lesser his transfer value becomes...

I rather have alonso in the team rather than Kuyt as Kuyt almost always plays as a midfielder nowadays even though he is picked as a striker...

yes, kuyt was poor as he usually is.

but don't use kuyt as a scapegoat, gerrard and torres were extremely ineffective today and should shoulder the blame too.

on the plus, aurelio looks as if he is finding form from where he left us last season.

We played well.

Dominating a wannabe top four team on their own turf.

Just the final piece of the puzzle was missing.

But still much to be positive about.

unlucky not to get the 3 points, we were the better side in what was a good team performance. It was a frustrating afternoon for the forwards, in fairness to Man city they defended excellently and Richard Dunne was immense and the reason why Liverpool didnt win the game. Torres had a difficult evening against him and in fairness he is one of the most underratted centre backs in the premier League. For us I thought Carra and Mascherano were excellent, I know Ive said it before but he is the best defensive midfielder in the world 17 million is cheap at the price.

There were two area's that let us down with the obvious exception of up front. Our right side was poor, and we didn't seem to have enough in the middle to create. We need a player that can fill both areas and pick the hardest of locks.

Here is my verdict:

Reina 7
Did nothing all day. Must have been boring for him.

Finnan 6
Finnan is in decline. Maybe he is not match fit yet, but I suspect we must look for a new right back next season.

Arbeloa 6
Not his best position but filled in for Sami/Agger and did not let the team down.

Caragger 6
In games like this I suspect a player like Agger would have made a big impact. Carra defended well but he creates nothing from the back and his passing was a bit off.

Aurelio 7
Best in the back 4. Came forward several times. Hit good crosses and made some decent shots.

Benayoun 6
On and off. Dangerous player with good awareness and technique. Could have scored today.

Mascherano 9
Our best player. World class midfielder. Absolutely on fire for 90 minutes. Breaking down attacks, closing down players, running up and down. What a player.

Gerrard 7
Decent game. Looked a bit tired at times. Sometimes wasteful in posession and his head gets a bit hot.

Kewell 2
A wimp. Gave away the ball countless times. Helped Man City orchestrate 3 good counter attacks. No threath, no pace, no killer instinct. He has clearly lost it. Maybe he is not match fit. I don't care. He should not have played.

Kuit 4
One of his best games so I reward him with 4 points. Worked hard. But he is not doing anything dangerous. Kuit is a mix between Eric Meijer and Sean Dundee.

Torres 6
Won many chances but failed to score. With a proper referee he might have had a player sent off and gotten a bit more protection so that he could have scored.

Babel came on too late but he really did well and created a spark and a period of constant pressure and balls flying in their box. Too bad he did not get more time. Especially as Kewell was playing like a little girl.

THese types of games show that we desperately need a quality winger with loads of pace.
