Rafa has made some HUGE signing blunders and wasted a lot of cash.

Rafa's only outstanding signings in five seasons have been Torres and Alonso, Babel maybe, who doesnt play often.

:Oo:

Are you a WUM? Rafa didnt sign Kewell, Crouch did a great job for us, Aurelio when hes fit is as good as any other left back in the league, Momo was boss until his injuries made him lose his confidence. Pellegrino? How many games did he play for us about 5? come on now your nit picking, and whats yer problem with Masch? What about Reina? isnt he any good either?

Without our little Luis we wouldnt have won the CL in 2005 so stop talkin out of yer @rse.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong, Ken married Deirdre, Prince Charles got married, it was on the cards !  :wwww

In all fairness though, with regards to rafa, I will appreciate forever what he achieved that year with such a poor squad.

With regards to his contract, I really dont want him to be offered a new contract until the end of the season based on our position. If at the end of the season we are still challenging then by all means a contract should be offered, but something like 2 years. If we win it then yes, hes a genius and knows what he is doing. By giving him a new contract now, rafas future is secure, we then have to endure the tinkering, the not playing the full strength team in the league, and i'll be honest, the grey on my head is rapidly spreading. Its getting too much, and it really is getting tedious. By getting his contract now, rafa can sit in the luxury of being as stubborn as a mule, selecting poor lineups and know that he has the full backing of the board. However it means having to put up with baffling decisions and line ups he picks which leaves everyone scratching there head.

The long and short of it is, to me at least:

Contract now for rafa = "Just for Men" hair dye becoming a new weekly signing for me !

Red nosed or what he is one of the best managers in the game alongside Wenger, Jose, Hiddink...I wouldnt mind any of them if Rafa continues with the stupidity he displayed at Stoke..

Maureen would never in a million years manage us with the Americans running things. Roman gave him all the money he could ever want but still stuck his nose in, those two idiots dither over every possible signing until A) They don't give Raffa enough money and he buys a "stop gap" alternative  or B) Some other club signs them.

And they still stick their nose in !!

I dont want another manager rafa is great, but I would really like to know what goes on in that head of his at times when, we are Liverpool one of the most famous clubs in the world why does he worry about getting beat by the likes of Stoke?

This is my only problem with him he is to cautious at times but I dont want another manager.

I understand what you are saying but i think the OP is asking IF we had to have another manager who should it be.

SAMMY HOPEFUL OF RAFA RETURN
Jimmy Rice 14 January 2009
Sammy Lee is hopeful hospital-bound Rafa Benitez will be back at Melwood in time to oversee final preparations for next week's derby double header.
Click here to watch our exclusive interview with Sammy>>

The gaffer will undergo a third operation on troublesome kidney stones today, leaving his assistant to lead training.

Lee told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's a difficult time for him because, you know Rafa Benitez - all he wants to do is be out there on the training pitch with his players. That's his forte. But he's still buoyant.

"He's going for the third operation but we're hoping it won't keep him out for too long - hopefully just a couple of days.

"All credit to Rafa for what he's put in place. His attention to detail and organisation means that, if any one of us is missing, there won't be a blip."

Benitez underwent his first operation back in December, returning to the dressing room when Bolton visited Anfield on Boxing Day.

Since then the Spaniard has watched matches from the directors' box.

Lee joked: "You certainly get a different view of things up there - but he sees things that I don't when we're both on ground level, so there's no difference there!"

this is the issue right here. many of us seem to have developed some sort of emotional attachment with rafael benitez and know deep down that he is a very talented manager with an understand of the game that goes deeper than most. but simultaneously more and more of us are aware that if he keeps up with his bizarre team selections and over cautious approach he's not going to bring us the title.

as much as i like the man i'm beginning to lose the faith in his methods. i'm starting to think that maybe he's just not got the cavalier spirit that you need to go all the way in english football. he's obviously been good enough to improve us as a team and as a club but maybe, just maybe, he's taken us as far as he can.

we'll see what happens in may.

as far as who i'd like as a replacement if that was necessary, i've not really got much of an idea. i think gus hiddink is a fantastic manager who obviously has the ability to get teams to play with belief but that's about it. maybe we could get barcelona to let us have guardiola??

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong - to Ciggy. Funnily enough Garcia played a part in the campaign, BUT Florent Sinama Pongolle came on at half-time against Olympiakos to start the comeback in that game or we wouldn't have even got to the stage at which "our little Luis" did whatever lead to your claim.

Liverpool vs Olympiakos 08/12/04 - Key events

26mins Rivaldo scores, Liverpool need to score three goals
45 mins - half time. On comes....................FSP (Pongolle)
47 mins - FSP scores
81 mins - Mellor scores
86 mins - Gerrard scores

I'm only half serious in suggesting Pongolle was key to our winning the Champions League, the point really is you could point to any number of games, goals and key events as being crucial to us reaching the final let alone winning it. Gerrard's is the most famous of those three goals, BECAUSE it was the third goal and the one that sealed our passage into the last sixteen. But Pongolle started the scoring, Mellor scored a second and without their (two) goals Gerrard's couldn't be the third!

Without ANYONE who contributed something to that run, we wouldn't have won the CL in 2005. Without Gerrard we might not have even got past the qualifier as he scored both in our 2-0 win over Graz AK and we lost 0-1 at Anfield. I guess Josie would say the linesman/referee won us the CL with the "ghost goal", that I and every fan on here would have preferred a penalty and to face ten men for the rest of the game is no never mind. In fact many counter that by saying that advantage was played and so the goal shouldn't have stood because Garcia didn't score from the advantage. Ref probably got it right by being wrong, gave us the goal we would have had but kept it 11 v 11.

FSP also played a crucial role in winning the 2006 FA Cup, his appearance as sub and two goals against Luton saved us a third round exit as much as Gerrard took the final to penalties

Nice to see so many of our fans wanting two of the most over-rated managers in Premiership history in charge here.
