Anyone know much about all this gate receipt business? I looked on the LFC website and couldn't see any comment, Liverpool are getting slated by most people and when I did a google search for some kind of official line I found mancs are having a field day

This, if true, has to be a decision made by either the owners or someone like Rick Parry. I could understand it to a degree,  that it is Luton's problem and they were getting TV money out of it. However the reason I'd simply give them the money is for the club image and the damage not doing so is doing.

On the match, not a great performance by us and it showed how poor we are too often. That may have been far from a first choice XI but I counted £62m worth of players who played more like £62k worth of players.

Should Rafa go? Well he's not exactly making a strong case to stay in his fourth season in charge, struggling to get through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, out of the League Cup and facing a tough task in the Champions League. And our title bid is faltering badly, even if Rafa kids himself we'll be there or thereabouts

I thought we might kick on from that 8-0 against Besiktas, but we then perhaps took our eye off the ball and decided Marseille away was more important and came off the rails at Reading. Two consecutive defeats followed a win in Marseille, but ever since we've been far from convincing. Since and including that defeat at Reading we've played nine games and some of those performances and results were far from impressive

Reading 3-1 Liverpool
Derby 1-2 Liverpool
Man City 0-0 Liverpool
Liverpool 1-1 Wigan
Luton 1-1 Liverpool

I reckon those are some very ordinary results against teams we might have felt we'd win and in some cases win comfortably. I've excluded the defeats to Chelsea and Man Utd, disappointing as they were neither was a particular shock. What in those results and performances makes any fan think Rafa is on the brink of bringing home the league? Or maybe people think he is the sorceror's apprentice and will win his first league in his seventh season like fergie did. What I can't believe is the side we put out yesterday cost £62m, couldn't even beat lowly Luton or put out a decent performance

I coildn't care less, they have a replay and the money from that will outweigh whatever they wanted from Saturday. If the footballing world is so concerned its quite simple, bail Luton out collectively, its not LFC's responsibilty solely because we happen to have played them. Infact i believe bailing out is irresponsible in any case, it gives other Clubs a get out clause for mis-management. FFS mange your finances correctly.

I tried putting across the financial common sense perspective to a couple of colleagues, but because clubs have bailed out smaller clubs in the past it's almost unthinkable not to - in the views of some people. But in truth for the minimal amount of money we'd make from their gate receipts it probably wasn't worth the grief, I agree that Luton are in a hole because of their own doing and rescuing them isn't our problem. Do every team they ever play give them donations and the money from gate receipts? The manc website mentions Bury, how come they don't have whip rounds at every game for clubs in dire straits? And if it were a company and not a football club would people be so generous? I doubt it, dog eat dog except for football apparently.

But at the end of the day we're the one's who have to 'live it down', decisions made by the owners. Like one fan who says Liverpool will win the league on a general forum or on teletext and apparently ALL Liverpool fans are tarred with the same brush. You can't say about the replay, at the time I doubt those that made the decision expected anything but a cushy win.

And another thing, Leeds and Ken Bates wriggled their way out of paying off their debts by agreeing a pitiful 8p in the pound or something that ridiculous. So they borrow £60m to buy success, or so they thought, and their wasteful spending, mismanagement and stupidity put them in debt. Few fans sympathise with them because of the high profile of that stupid move, clubs don't just end up in sh1t because it just happens. Funny how many clubs stay solvent, the minute one doesn't people take pity.

I understand the sentiments and it isn't a huge amount, infact SG gets that in a week  but its a harsh lesson for them to learn, and any commentators who feel we have been a bit harsh can write a cheque and wing it over to Luton if they like. ManU only helped Bury because they have a bit of a relationship with them and it is  fairly local.

Good luck to them and all that, but to be honest I think they're a bit tw*ttish if they asked. Surely much better to be offered than to come with the begging bowl?

I got asked once why I generally don't give money to people on the street. The way I see it, when you factor in mortgage, credit cards, overdraft, student loans and everything else, people on the street with a tin full of coppers actually have more money than I do.

Same applies here. We're not a poor club, but then it's not exactly our money either. Luton are in trouble, but in reality they actually have less debt than we do.

Absolute SHAMBLES, that was LFC's team performance against Luton, Liverpool was outplayed by Luton, and if Luton had a good finisher, they would have won by at least 3-1 if not 4-1.

Liverpool is in deep trouble, there was no team moral, no passing, no confidence at all, just 11 players do not have a faith in each other, totally disjointed no playing strategy, just long balls, Wimbledon style of play, THIS Benitez style the most negative manager that LFC ever had, he is an absolute idiot, he is destroying LFC.

If a club like LFC, have 60 players on their book, but can not produce a top wining team week in week out, then THERE IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE CLUB'S MANAGER !!!!!!!!!. Benitez, is finished, and I sincerely hope we can get rid of him now, because, he will cause more harm by staying in charge any longer, so far he has destroyed the club, spend too much money of worthless players the likes of Voronin, Kuyt, who both should dropped from first team totally, and put up for sale, and drop their wages, we have many others the those two donkeys who can't score with just the keeper to beat, they can go to their own countries and be top stars as they like.

LFC do need a good British manager, I do want to name one, but there are few good one around, and from old Liverpool players.  LFC used produce so many good players, but since Houlier and this idiot Benitez, LFC, became a top buying club of a most and very average foreign players, while we pushing out and neglecting our youth policy. Every year LFC is dropping back behind Man. utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, and others up coming clubs in this league.

I think all the faithful fans should raise their voices and demand a immediate change, by bringing a manager from one of Liverpool old players and must be British, we had enough of second standard foreign manages, they only brought short successes, but long term damage to LFC, lowering the standard, made the club lose al it wealth, by paying top wages to below average players the likes, of Voronin,Kuyt, Kewell, Leto, Aurelio, and some many others I can even remember their names.

It is time for change, we already lost the league, but not in idiot Benitez eyes, because, he want to keep his position and his reputation, because if get the sack from LFC, it will harm his reputation, and make hard for him to land a top job like this one.
He must be replaced at once.

Benitez is probably concentrating on a good CL run so that his reputation in Spain/Italy will be kept and then if he gets the boot (which he should) he can get a top club over there.

He is only still in the job because of two great cup runs (in Champions league), he has done nothing else to warrent employment.

posts like this just prove that rafa is a victim of his own success, when houllier left fans would have been happy just to qualify for the champions league considering owen and gerrard wanted out and the squad houllier left. people talk about long ball, jesus christ did they actually go and watch a game under houllier? we were a joke, everyone outplayed us, even if we won it was hit and run tactics, cruyff called us a crime against football and to have half the league shout "hoof"at us hurt more than anything. at least teams like spurs and newcastle turn on their managers when they are half way down the league and in crisis, here at liverpool people start turning on the manager when it looks like we wont win the league!! not asking for much then!!

I won't change my mind on the basis of a cup run. Even Millwall reached the cup final a few years ago.

Cup runs are based on having a little bit of quality and a lot of luck. League is about ability.

The idea that great players make great managers is a load of rubbish. There are NO ex Liverpool players who could possibly run our club. They would be so out of their depth I'd start worrying over relegation.

We won the league under Kenny only because he was PLAYER/MANAGER . If he hadn't come off the bench during the run in we would not have won that title and you could tell that he did not want to play, he wanted the players to do it themselves.

The Prem needs a different metal to La Liga and it takes more than picking players on skill alone. You have to prepare them. Wenger does incredible investigations into a lads' personality before he signs them, spending just as much time on that aspect as the lads' ability.

We are suffering because Raffa doesn't have this insight but I can't think of a sensible alternative under this board. Just got to hope he sees the light.
