i actually would say no to mascherano for 17 million

its too much for a man of his limited ability

alonso, lucas or even momo (if he just sticks to tackling and playing it 5 yards) can play that holding role if asked aswell as masherano can

i would spend the 17 million on a top class winger or support striker instead

I'd say he's not worth it, had the scum not paid such astronomically dumb fees for Hargreaves and Carrick.

In that climate, Mascher is worth about £80m. :D

at the time i guess they were short of centre mids so had their chains yanked over the prices

we dont exactly need centre mids so i wouldnt pay 17 million when we already have gerrard, alonso, lucas, sissoko (like i said if you just make him sit infront of the back 4 and tackle and play it simple he would be alright)

If Alonso was worth a £15 to 20million new contract, I am pretty sure Mascherano is worth £17million. £9million Transfer plus £8million contract. Sounds a bargain to me.

Agreed.

I think it's become blatantly clear in the last few games that if we have 17 million to spend then it is desperately needed in creative areas and not on another defensive/destructive midfielder (no matter how good he is). It pains me to say that at the moment Mascherano is a player that even if we can afford would be too much of a luxury. If we were to offload players like Momo and Alonso then yes there would be a need for Mascha but currently we need a quality creative player from Harrods and not a three for two from Tesco's.

Surely the £17m is the fee his owners want?

That would mean a total outlay of £25m at least.

I thought it was great that Michael Carrick could play for Man Utd and also be the star of "Phantom Of The Opera".

Manhattan sent him an e-mail asking what it was like to work with Sarah Brightman.

He said "Sorry mate, I think you have me confused with Michael Crawford"
