I do not follow all spanish teams closely so I do not have good information about Alonso but what I do know is that  Alonso became famous after the 2002-2003 season in la liga that was the year they (Real Sociedad) came 2nd behind Real Madrid. Although loosing the title on the last day was partly their own fault. So the nucleus of the team was formed by Nihat, Kovacevic and Alonsa . The first two being forwards and Alonso playing in the midfield. He was pretty much their driving force through the midfield and he has excellent ball control. I think it was after that season that he became a regular in spanish team.

The problem However with him is that he is not typically a deffensive midfielder rather a holding type more likely to direct the flow of the game and that was one reason why Reals move for him used to blow Hot and Cold over a period of two years. but he is a great player there is no doubt about it.

thanks again

Fantastic player. Great ball control, work rate and vision. He is already one of our most important players. He is going to score and create a lot of goals. Heck, I'd even pick him over Pires at attacking midfield!

He looks a very good player, he's also exciting to watch like Baros which is what we want to see, I like the way he is very inteligent off the ball as his runs and one twos are great, as said previously he needs to improve on his finishing :;):

Garciafan, I used to follow Barca during Cruyff's time as they played great attacking football - Stoichkov, Romario, Laudrup were a joy to watch.
I didn't really liked Ronald Koeman but he was very good at freekicks.

It was really an anti-climax for me when I watched the 1994 CL final when Barca was really stifled by AC Milan but that day Dejan Savicevic really played out of his skin and scored a fantistic goal due to Zubizaretta being off his line which spelt the end of his Barca career. I think Giuly is a fantastic player and it was good for us that he had moved to Barca.

I know we've not seen much of him, but on the last couple of weeks alone I reckon Garcia's easily the most exciting player we've had since Litmanen.

From the look of last night as well, he's dragging Kewell's form back up, as Harry was continually bombing forward, mainly to keep up with him. Before the signings were made, our midfield - Gerrard excepted - was pretty static, but now that there's running all over the park, I think it's getting Harry interested in playing again.

I must admit that I am a bit skeptical about Garcia because he was mentioned as a reserve barca player who has been out on loan a lot. I certainly didn't expect him to be such a skillful, lively and intelligent player...

Another one who has been worth his transfer fee already is Josemi - what a solid player!

Garcia actaully played quite a lot for barca last season and scored 7 goals in La Liga, which was the highest in Spain for his position or something.

Since the beginning of GH regime, Josemi's simply the best signing ever after Hyypia, in terms of comparation between price and quality.

Please back to Garcia  :)

Why oh why did Michael Leave?

Imagine the same team as last night but with Owen upfront.  :(

Anyways, i'm impressed. VERY impressed.

Looks like a real quality player and i'm sure he'll get better with games. Must admit, i thuoght Luis Garcia... Who's that? When i heard 6 million being branded about... He's winning me over very quickly but like all the new signings. Needs time.

although i tend to agree with you Stu, I don't think and I am sure you don't think that we are going to struggle without him, if Cisse can begin to hit form with Garcia playing in behind him, and Baros/Pongolle ready to come on if need be then we will qucikly stop thinking about Owen, the future looks bright and Rafa' new signings and style of play is looking better and better every week.  :)

Please stop dwelling on Owen, the lad has left and lets forget about him now
