Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Really working himself into good form. He has been excellent recently but I still think he is only at 80-90% of the level he reached in the 18 months prior to his injury. Onwards and upwards.

200 games for Liverpool which is some achievement and yet proof in
itself how ordinary we have become.

Lucas is seen as one of our leading lights and a kingpin of the Liverpool
team and yet would not get a game at any other leading club in this
division or Europe.

If he can rack up 200 games here then that in itself is a snapshot of how
mediocre and deluded we are.

i think thats very harsh mate, for 18 months he was probably the best player at the club and just before he picked up that injury at chelsea he wasnt just playing as well as any DM in the country but any midfielder in the country.
the injury he is trying to recover from ended players career`s back in the 80`s, it`s going to take a while before he`s back to his best.

I appreciate going against the grain with Lucas but he's never done it for me. No questioning his commitment and effort but I don't think we will pull up any trees relying on him to protect the backline and distribute the ball. We haven't in 200 games to this point anyway.

To think he was booed and made fun of constantly when he first came by his own fans. He kept his head down, stayed focused on improving and made himself into a massively important player for us (we can probably cope without Gerrard easier than without him). Should be a Liverpool legend just for that! I would like to see him take a bigger role in his national side as that will help improve him more.

When we had Mascherano in that defensive mid position I'd agree Lucas looked extremely average, but he did get better over time. Real shame about his injuries they look to have set him back quite a bit.

What is he now 26? still plenty of time to recover his form.

I don't mind admitting that I criticised Lucas during his first couple of years at Liverpool but there again I don't know many people that didn't. Just one of my mates always from day one enthused that Lucas would develop into a great player.Clearly he had a lot more vision and patience than most of us. DID I BOO LUCAS - NEVER NOT EVEN WHEN HE HIT ROCK BOTTOM.

Today's supporters really pi.ss me off. Arriving late. Leaving early at half time and coming back late after the break.Leaving before the end of the game. BUT ABOVE ALL ELSE BOOING PLAYERS AND THE TEAM WHEN THINGS DON'T WORK OUT. These individuals have successfully turned Anfield into a mausoleum. I'm proud to say I have never once taken part in their pathetic activities.IT''S A REAL SHAME THAT THESE SUPPORTERS CAN'T UP THEIR GAME IN THE SAME WAY AS LUCAS.

Glad some of us had belief and faith of him as witnessed throughout the thread.

Booing him was a disgrace as it would be any player. But booing a young player who was still developing was even worse. Glad he shoved some people's words right back down their throats

Still believe he is overrated by LFC supporters.

Yes, we missed him in midfield earlier this season but any team would miss their one and only DM.

We need, IMO another DM who ideally  can either play alongside Lucas, or for  Lucas to play second fiddle to.

Lucas had a good year prior to his injury ,but so did Skertel ,his previous years were plain horrible.
Going forward he would make a good squad player but not your anchor at DM.

From the few interviews I've seen I've really warmed to Lucas as a "person" and despite bashing him early in his LFC career subsequently I've been wishing only good things for Lucas.

I thought Mascherano maybe inhibited Lucas' game as after Mash left Lucas suddenly began to "step up" and show he had more in his locker.

He did have a very good season last term BUT despite that and my new found respect for Lucas, I still kind of agree with what Parchpea said earlier this year

No questioning his commitment and effort but I don't think we will pull up any trees relying on him to protect the backline and distribute the ball. We haven't in 200 games to this point anyway.

A very good player, unfortunately as things stand we need a great one.

Lucas is an average player, always has been always will be. He’s
improved a lot from the complete rubbish he was when he first arrived but let’s
not kid ourselves into thinking he’s some kind of great player. Its no
coincidence that Lucas improvement has coincided with our decline as a
team, he’s nowhere near the level of Mascherano, Alonso or even Sissoko. He
looks better because he’s the only DM we have and he’s plays every game, however if we don’t improve on him with a proper DM we wont ever get back to where we were even a few years ago.
