He was particularly poor yesterday but leads a charmed life in that Liverpool midifield. We arent blessed with a ton of options in that area but its my opinion that until they replace Lucas in that role it will be hard for us to progress quickly. Hes an average holding midfielder who lacks the mobility and touch we need to improve this team. Ive tried to be convinced by the positive vibes from the faithful but cannot for the life of me see anything in the lad at all and never have.

Im still waiting for the evidence that hes a great player. He is so slow and predictable its painful to watch.

Lucas captain? Gotta be a wind up that. He is average at best, and we have better options now so he shouldn't even be in the 1st team imo.

It's not that crazy, if as you would like Carra was dropped, then he would  probably be the most viable option, given Stevie's still not back.

???

Pepe Reina is a better leader and so is Suarez.

Lucas doesn't lead by example

Keepers are generally rubbish captains, and im not sure Pepe can be harsh enough on players, he's everyones mate, Lucas has been taking charge on the pitch over the last year, both verbally and through his performances. Suarez captain? Not a chance, first of all he can hardly communicate with the rest of the team. best skippers are usually defenders and midfielders.

Rubbish. How about Cassilas, Khan, Chilavert or Zoff?

I know Gerrard did!

He had to sit deep the whole game because of it.

I miss having a decent DM, like Hamman or Mascha.

I would like to have a few more games without him to see what effect his absence has
On yesterdays showing he wasnt missed at all. There was a distinct lack of stupid, needless fouls and potentially dangerous free kicks given away by our area.
That feeling of "what the fu'cks he doing!" was completely absent yesterday and we were unlucky not to win
If only he was suspended for a few more games...

i agree.
lucas is by no means a match winner and had he of being eligible to play we would have still ended up with the same result.
thommo is right when he says that we need to see a run of games where he isnt playing to truly see what impact he has on the team and whether we can do without him or not.

If we had Lucas in the game against Norwich we probably would have won it comfortably. For starters, their goal which came as a direct result Adam losing possession and leaving the back4 exposed could perhaps have been better defended if it was Lucas and Gerrard tracking back to cover the space rather than Gerrard alone (the far side of the pitch). Also, Gerrard would have had more of an influence on the game from an attacking perspective rather than having to carry Adam defensively.

I dont quite understand all the criticism Lucas has been getting recently. He's doing a job defensively and while his attacking contribution hasnt been particularly good (it never was), I think the blame on that front should be paced on the players who are responsible for building up play and controlling the tempo. I'm sure if we had someone providing statistics for this season, they would show that this season Lucas has put in more tackles than anytime before in his Liverpool career. The stats would also probably show that hes had more touches in the opposition half than hes ever had in the shirt. Thats mainly because this season hes had to show up for the ball more often and has had the added pressure of covering more space in our half of the pitch.

You could argue that the reason behind that is us playing 4-4-2 more often but I think it also has to do Johnson and Gerrard being injured and Adam/Henderson/Kuyt/Downing failing to influence the game from deeper positions like Gerrard, Meireles, Alonso.. etc did for the side in previous seasons.

Actually, I'd rather have Alonso back. He said by himslef that he would love to come back and play for us one day. Can't see either of them coming back but at least Alonso looks a bit more realistic. He'll have only one more year left to his contract at the end of this season I think, and he'll be like 30 so doubt he'll cost us more than 10 mill. Would be extremely happy if this ever happens but it's probably never going to happen.

Yeah I think he's top tackler at the moment in the league... or at least he was 2-3 gameweeks ago.
