Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Tue Nov 23, 2004 10:44 pm

-We now need to score two goals against Olympiakos in order to advance in the Champions League
-Luis Garcia picked up a hamstring injury
-Josemi also picked up a sever knock

Which would mean that we have a total of 5 players injured[Cisse,Baros,Garcia,Josemi and Smicer].

Not looking good at the moment.

well on the bright side, its in our hands and we are guaranteed to go through if we win 2-0 or 3-1, hopefully its 2-0 cause i can't see us scoring 3 goals cause of lack of strikers

No what we seem to lack is players who are willing to put effort in every game.

I think we'll do it.  Just got an optimistic feeling about it. :)

I've lost optimism today. The defeat just sums up my day. I was looking forward to this game and the one against Arsenal but it seems that Boro have started our run of defeats.

I'm not too pessimistic.

We CAN get the two goal win we need. Greek teams are not known for their exploits on their travels, and they won't like a hot reception at Anfield. As long as we try our best and do all we can, it'll be what it may.

It could be worse, we could be IN Deportivo's position, who haven't even a hope of qualifying for the UEFA Cup.

The injury situation has now become a joke. I feel sorry for Benitez, as he has had a terrible time of it so far, with Gerrard out for so long, Smicer and Nunez yet to become available, Cisse wrecking his leg, Kewell's unfitness and crucially, Baros' latest injury.

Of course all teams suffer injuries, but after the summer clear out and the 11th hour departure of Owen, we more than any other club in the top half of the Premiership could have done without the injuries we have suffered.

Hopefully these last few months will prove the be as low as it gets, and hopefully once players start coming back from injury and a few new faces we'll start making progress again.

We still have a chance, but unfortunately things are going as we half expected really. We do not have strength in depth so injuries to key players have crippled us. At the moment we are hoping for results rather than being confident we can get them. Tonight it feels like theres little hope but tomorrows another day and we are still in the competition. Let us pray  :sleepy:

You know what, we will have to cope with it. Man Utd started off with 10 of their players injured and they struggled and survived, we have to do the same.

How many times before have we had a crucial game at Anfield where we needed to score twice against decent opposition and we overcame the odds to achieve it?

OK, we have injuries, but I guarantee EVERY player will be fired up for the Greek game and the stadium will be absolutely electric.

We can do it!
