Liverpoolfc ... the greater significane - What does it represent for u?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Hard to say really, very different for different people.  For the born and bred scousers I'd imagine LFC stands for local pride.  It's quite obvious even though I'm not from Liverpool that much of the rest of England, especially the south, has a superiority complex when it comes to Liverpool.  During the glory years of the 70s and 80s and to an extent last season after winning the CL, it was a massive 2 fingers to the rest, everyone else was jealous of what LFC achieved.

While winning the CL last season was probably the best day of my life, I can only imagine what it must have felt as a scouser on that day, it must have been 10 times better.  For the guys who go to all the games travelling up and down the country supporting the team, LFC must basically be their life.

For me, I don't make it over to games anywhere near as much as I'd like, even tried moving over to Liverpool a few years back so I could make more games but it didn't work out.  For me I suppose LFC is a passion, it hurts when we lose and it's amazing when we win and I'll never forget the first time I heard YNWA sung at Anfield

No doubt the most important thing in my life apart from family of course!!

The passion you feel for your club, the tears and laughter, the ups and downs, bad days and great days you simply wont forget! All though i understand the origanal post LFC does'nt signify anything for me it's simply a massive massive part of my life that i could never do without!

As is football in general, its a great game and i could not imagine my life without LFC and football!I still today cannot understand any man who does not like football, theres plenty of them around and i just find it wierd! If football stopped tomorrow id struggle to fill the void in my life, couldnt do without it!!

I only get over to about 4 matches a season and its a shame but its all i can manage at the moment....but hey you dont have to be there every week to be a passionate supporter!!

Excellent thread.

We fans like to describe our passion in religious terms, as if the places our heroes play are secular cathedrals. It's easy to see why. When you truly, deeply love a football team, you give yourself up to something bigger than yourself, not just because your individuality is rendered insignificant in the mass of the crowd, but because being a fan involves faith. No matter what its current form may be, your team is worthy of blind devotion—or will soon redeem itself. Believe me, I saw enough dross during the 90's but nevertheless, Liverpool FC became the most important thing in my life (don't tell the missus).   :D

To be a fan of Liverpool is a blessing, for it connects you as nothing else can to childhood, and to everything and everyone that marked your life between your time as a child and the present. What does being a fan mean? It means you'll never walk alone.

Like John Craig said its local pride and a religion to me. Seeing Stevie lift the cl trophy last year was almost as though we were lifting it with him. I could almost touch the trophy even though i was watching it on tv last year. Like Phil Thompson he achieved a dream which all of us could relate to. Im proud to support the greatest club from the greatest city with the most passionate fans in the world.

I used to watch me dad when i was a kid ,when liverpool were on telly ( not often back then ) or when they were on Radio city when we had an away leg in europe. He was like an absolute madman ,it was like he was posessed by some demon. This most mild mannered of men was hanging on every word Elton Welsby said and was effin and blindin when things weren't going our way. He booted the telly in when Kevin Keegan got fouled once ,amazing. I used to think it's only footie for gods sake ,(i was only five or six so you must forgive me)whats he turning into a nutter for. I had two European cup finals with him before he died 77 AND 78 ,and on both occasions he said to me just look at the fans, they are the best in the world ,they'll go anywhere to see us play. The stadiums at both games were just a mass of red. The fans singing at the top of there voices . Liverpool fans love there footie ,there players ,there ground ,there history , there future and there fellow fans. We are all truly blessed to be part of the best team in the world.  Wise man my dad.
