I thought I read that none of the World Cup players would be available for selection.

With that being the case, my prediction for the starting eleven is as follows:

GK: Carson
RB: Finnan
CB: Hyypia
CB: Paletta
LB: Warnock
CMF: Sissoko
CMF: Zenden
LMF: Riise
RMF: Paul Anderson
CF: Fowler
CF: Bellamy

Think this could be the lineup?

GONZALEZ DEBUT DELAYED

Liverpool fans must wait another week to see new signing Mark Gonzalez in action, after injury ruled him out of tomorrow's opening pre-season friendly against Wrexham.
Speaking at a Melwood press conference this afternoon Rafael Benitez revealed that the Chilean winger has suffered a slight knee injury in training and will now not make his Reds bow until the game against Crewe at Gresty Road on 22 July.

"Mark has been training really well and I was really impressed. He's been scoring a lot of goals – with his left foot, his right foot and his head. Then, unfortunately, at the end of the training session he felt something in his knee," said Benitez.

"It's not serious but he won't be playing at Wrexham. He will play at Crewe next Saturday."

Always good to start with a warm up games against a local lower league team, most of the players from the World Cup will not be back in training yet so will obviously not feature.

I imagine these will be the first team players that Rafa will choose from:

Craig Bellamy
Jerzy Dudek
Steve Finnan
Sami Hyypia
Daniel Agger
John Arne Riise
Robbie Fowler
Momo Sissoko
Fabio Aurelio
Boudewijn Zenden
Gabriel Paletta

And the youngsters will also be heavily involved:

Besian Idrizaj
Danny Guthrie
David Mannix
Lee Peltier
Danny O'Donnell
James Smith
Paul Anderson
Adam Hammill
Miki Roque
Jack Hobbs
Godwin Antwi
David Martin

While these players are at the club there isn’t much point involving them as they probably will not be here come the end of August:

Scott Carson (Probably going out on loan for the season)
Salif Diao
Anthony Le Tallec
Darren Potter
Florent Sinama Pongolle
Carl Medjani
Djimi Traore
Stephen Warnock
Antonio Barragan

So a team looking something like this is what I would play:

                   Martin

Finnan     Hyypia     Paletta     Aurelio

Anderson Guthrie     Zenden    Riise

             Fowler     Bellamy

Bench (from):

Jerzy Dudek
Daniel Agger
Momo Sissoko
Besian Idrizaj
David Mannix
Lee Peltier
Danny O'Donnell
James Smith
Adam Hammill
Miki Roque
Jack Hobbs
Godwin Antwi

If Martin is going to be our 3rd choice keeper next year we may as well give him a game, I would be a bit hesitant to put in both Agger and Paletta in together straight away, maybe 1 half each for them, we can use Sissoko and Agger from the bench in addition to some of the younger players.

Can some of you more knowledgeable fans tell me which game it was at the end of last season, that Rafa put all the for sale players on. Dudek, Traore,Warnock, Morientes, Hamman, Cisse, I know that at least three players he wanted to keep were on but who were the rest. Just want to know who else is going!! :D

Looking forward to watching the game.  Bought an e-season ticket yesterday, never watched a game on it before but if the stream is sh.it then I'll cancel my subscription (you can cancel it within 7 days of your subscription free of charge).  If there's no problem then happy days.

From the way Benitez was talking about the game in the Gonzalez/Bellamy press conference the team will be a mixture of youngsters and first teamers today.  Gonzalez is out as we know but Bellamy definitely plays.

Maybe we'll get a look at Anderson.  Should be a comfortable 2 or 3 nil game for us even with a weakened side.
