Rafa's tactics are just crying out for a fast, skillfull winger.  Just look at his Valencia side, they had a lot of sucess because of Vicente.  He  was arguably their main threat, many of their attacks went through him.  It's the same with Man U and C. Ronaldo.  With this type of system you need a wide player who can score lots of goals.  Games like this reveal this problem that we have and it's there for everyone to see.  I think Benitez tried to solve this problem by getting Babel, but he is just not a winger.  What we need is a young Vicente maybe someone like Joaquin or David Silva would do the job.

i like babel and lucas but are we really in a position to spend 17 odd million on youngsters for the future when we have massive problems out wide

we really needed one world class winger instead of 2 promising kids for the future....both i rate but we are still crying out for the winger

Agreed about babel.......IMO he is not even potential...just a massively over-rated player (similar to cisse)...

Well every manager is allowed 1 or 2 costly mistakes.. :)

Well, that's very harsh, and IMO very, very wrong. Way off the mark there.

There's nothing i like more than to be proved wrong in the case of babel..... I would love it if he was the next henry...but from what i have seen him here and in his ajax days (yes....i have seen him play for ajax...on TV of course),  he is just a forward version of sissoko. His short passing is "sissoko" bad...and he can't dribble past people but he keeps doing that.

Like i said i hope i am wrong...but rafa got it massively wrong with babel if he thought he is gonna solve our wing problem.

Ive got say it, we wont win the title under Rafa!
I sat through that MUST win game last night and just despaired at Rafas performance from start to finish, he can look as angry as he likes, and we can all point at missed chances, but lets be honest, ANY half decent side would have taken the pts off us last night,
Its his responsibility to pick the side, and yet again he tries to do something totally baffling!
5 man MF and a sole striker at home against Wigan? had 2 strikers warming the bench,
watched as we put on a totally disjointed first half, never made any changes at HT, ok we got the goal early doors after the break, but continued to look like a team of strangers, then Wigan began to get into it, everyone in the ground knew we needed to change it before it went pair shaped, everyone that is but Rafa!
The penny finally dropped after they scored, and low and behold we get both fkn strikers off the bench, all to little to late, we start with one and end up with 3 strikers on the pitch!
Forget the late rally, that should be happening from the first whistle,
Bottom line, Rafa fkd it up again!
I think he will go in the summer, and hes only himself to blame.
Im not being ultra negative, Im trying to be honest.

I have been very sceptic of Benitez ability of winning the premier league since last season, that is mainly based on a numbers of factors, bad purchase of many average players, negative tactic, and arrogance, but so many fans in this forum, seems to disagree with me.
On tonight showing it does prove that the team is so disjointed, the moral is very low, playing with a negative approach, with one main striker while playing at home, needing all three points, with the useless Kewell on left wing, unable to go pass the defender to put a good cross through out the 75 minuets!!!!!!, Does the clever Benitez thinks that Kewell is the only and best winger at club!!!, and why he keep picking this useless player all the time, a player has offered so little, and he is a disgrace to wear the famous No.7 :censored:, it just show you how much this club had declined over the past ten years, the standard of this famous club is lowering every year, the problem totally lies with club's board of directors, keep bringing in charge those foreign managers the likes of Houlier and Benitez, who both had destroyed this club with their negative tactics and stupid buys of unknown and so many average players, costing Millions!!!.
Why Benitez not starting with Torres and Crouch is totally beyond me!, why did he had to take off Mascherano (man of the match), it was a useless move, and since his departure, the team lost the midfield towards the final 10 minutes, why did he put another useless player as Kuyt on the right wing and ask him to cross the ball, yes he did that alright, he made one long cross missed every Liverpool player, a player like Kuyt who had cost the club £10 Million, he will not get into M.United, Chelsea, Arsenal reserves, but only the clever Benitez thinks he worth every penny!!!, How do expect a manager like Benitez thinks the like of Kewell,Kuyt,Aurelio,Voronin, Leto, and many others average players at his disposable, will and could win him the league!!!!!!!!, please be real, and let not just dream with full emotion, the existing squad is full of below average players, but in Benitez's eyes they are top stars!!!, do not take me wrong, the LFC still have top class players, but they are very few, and some of them not given enough chances to play in the first 11, but only the running donkeys and headless chickens type of players in Benitez's book are top class players, and he is always right, and everyone thinks otherwise he is wrong! This man has lost the plot, and his recent days remind me of the last days of another idiot like him in Houlier, I don't think that Benitez is commanding the respect of his players, the body language of most of the players is it right, and it is showing on the pitch, and I think the team with end up with 20-26 points behind the leaders by the end of Feb.08, bad times ahead could be certain!!!

I am very hurt after seeing our badly selected team struggle to Wigan tonight, that is mainly due to Benitez only. I am sorry if I have hurt your feelings

Good post matey.  :buttrock

I have to say i am suprised he played this formation against wigan..... Although on paper gerrard looks like a perfect support striker...he almost always disappoints in the position. Only the match against arsenal did he look good in that role.

So i am baffled why rafa played with that formation....... Its almost like whenever gerrard is played in any position except CM..he sulks and puts in a half-f**k performance....

I am not sure whats wrong with this team....its as if they don't wanna play for rafa anymore....as they are much better than what they are showing now....

Sometimes all the players play with high tempo...press the opposition (against newcastle)....other times they just stand flat on their foot......Why can they play the same every match ?

Not sure if rafa had lost the players...

I personally feel that Rafa will deliver the title if he has the right funds, and if he makes a major overhaul of the team.  We have many quality players but they are just not fitting into his system.  One example is Gerrard, he is an amazing player but I just don't see him as Rafa type player.  Gerrard does not have the discepline that is needed to play in Rafa's CM, that is why he prefers to see him on the right.  But there is always pressure on him to put Gerrard into the middle.  I believe we would see much better results if Rafa had more freedom to build the team that he wants.

I would just like to know WTF happened to Agger, he was supposed to be out for about 4 weeks, that was back in September! I am not looking for excuses but I do believe we would have more points if he had come back on time.

Question 1: What drugs are you on?

Question 2: Where can I get them?

Klinsmann? LOL

Christ almighty, the spanners do come out of the woodwork on bad days, don't they!

No offense, like, but stop talking cack.

1. Im on anti-rotation drugs
2. What makes you think youre worthy?

And finally, youre not the only one to have an opinion on here that we all have to agree to - no offence but 'Emerald' only comes in one visible colour, and definately not Red.
