I know what ya mean, look up his goal the other day against Everton though... Was unbelievable the pace he launched the ball in. Jagielka got a deflected headed on it which failed to take any pace of it and it ended up in the back of the net.

I said earlier on in the thread his throw in the only thing we should be concerned about. A few of there goals this season have come from just that.

It could be the throwins that keep them up

Alright, I've just had my first look (I don't make a habit of looking for Everton highlights at the weekend, do I? :D ) and I see what all the buzz is about.  Either play Hyypia to cut them out before the get near the goal or rely on Reina to do his usual acrobatics.  Either way, I think we can handle it.

I am much more afraid on conceeding in a manner in which the first goal was scored with a long throw that was not cleared properly and then smashed in on a nice first time volley.  Just seems like a typical goal that we would give up last year, and so far we haven't really had a goal given up in that manner yet.

Cheers for the brief report Andy.

A long throw in is a situation that can give you a goal just like corners. If they do that play, by putting a man that heads the ball backwards (remind me how to say "peinar el balón" in Spanish Andy), we have to take care of it as any other situation like corners. Many teams have used at least in my country that tactic, and Riise's one in on our team have brought many goal threat situations. No jokes *trying to put a very serious face* . Ok I understand why you find it funny :D, but goals coming from that situations occur and I don't want to have a dumb face if it happens to us.

BTW, to defend those situations, zonal marking is better aswell, taking care that the correct man is in each zone, for instance Hyypia in the position of the receiver to abort the head back.

Best team out, rest players midweek in the League Cup. 3 full days of recovery between the Marseille game and this one and where at home.

Is there any YouTube evidence of Delap throwing his balls around with such gusto?

Hmmmm, mind you it's a hell of a throw.

But Mick McCarty's throw to Ronnie Whelan in 1988 Euros was better.

thought that was a strange favor to ask  :D

peinar [pay-e-nar']
article & verb transitive
1. To comb or dress the hair (pelo).
2. To comb wool.
3. To touch or rub slightly.
4. To excavate or eat away part of a rock or earth.
5. To move or divide anything gently. (Poetry) Las aves peinan las olas -> the birds skim the waves
Peinar el estilo -> to correct, to chastise, or to purify the style

Perhaps he was refering to the more poetic meaning of the word in gently moving the ball backwards off the head. having the ball "skim" off the top.  I have heard the term glancing header used often by English commentators to refer to redirecting the ball usually in just a slight enough way to put it past the keeper or where it just barely gets to the players head.
