Dont like the idea of the Man u game without him! with a bit of luck he should just make the game.

That explains a lot.

Stevie hasn't reached his own high standards in the first few games but to be fair even Stevie at half pelt is a match for the majority of midfielders in the Premiership cos he's that good.

I went to Sunderland and he was superb , at Boro on Saturday he ran his legs off and won us the game at the death.

He wasn't at the races tonight against a lively and young Standard Liege team but news of his impending operation might now provide an answer.

Whats more worrying is Alonso's form. He was very poor on Saturday and only marginally better tonight. At Sunderland he came on at HT to replace Plessi and did ok.

Relieved to be going through but we have to get our act together before the Mancs come to town on the 17th Sept.

Villa away will be a test on Saturday but their leaking goals and I think we will get something out of that game. To go into the international break with 9pts would be fantastic considering the way we have played in the Premiership.

Walk on  .............

I wondered why Gerrard was playing defensive midfielder in extra time, while Alonso was pushing forward. I think he must only have played tonight because of the importance, but why Rafa let him play for England god only knows.

7 - Reina - Some good saves.

5 - Arbeloa - Poor passing, poor movement but wasn't troubled defensively.

6 - Carragher - Poor distribution but untroubled.

6 - Turtle (can't spell his name) solid but ball watched once or twice.

7 - Aurelio - Decent on the ball and done well on the left on his own.

3 - Kuyt - Scored the winner but was a disgrace. Absolotuely awful.

7 - Alonso - MOM never gave it away, played some excellent passes, read the game, best player.

7 - Gerrard - Helped Xabi boss the game, tried, tackled and done well, good balance with Xabi.

4 - Bennayoun - Poor, can do alot better.

5 - Keane - Worked hard... too hard. RELAX!

6 - Torres - Not at his best, needs to sharpen up.

Subs:

2 - Babel - Supplied the cross, he owed that to us for the :censored: he served before... Is the biggest :censored: house and waster ever. Rubbish rubbish rubbish performance by a :censored: player who is a disgrace to the shirt.

7 - El Zhar - Looked lively, offered more than Kuyt, Babel and Bennayoun. Played good passes and looked lively.

Disgracefull from the wide players with the exception of Aurelio.

But we didn't control the midfield as we should, Stu. Xabi could have done better, not awful, but not definitely a good game.

Disagree completely, Gerrard and Xabi were good and done what they could. It was two against 4 in there all game untill El Zhar came on and they held there own and done well.

Linked well, tackled, passed. Thought both of them were very good.
