Got lost a bit in amongst the Crouch goal euphoria, but I made the point that Quaresma's performance tonight showed every single reason why we've been right to overlook him. Never once wanted to take the simple option, almost like he was trying to add to his own personal YouTube collection of cute touches.

4-1 wasn't a good representation of the match, but I am liking the way we're finishing matches strongly right now. All too often we'd get pegged back to 1-1 and I'd have my fist in my mouth for the last 15 mins.

So nice that we winn this game but we also had to win against Marseille, with a draw we ware out of Champions League.

Nice is also that Werder Bremen won their game against Real Madrid  :)

We still need to win. It goes by head to heads not goal diffrence, if we win 1-0 we win by GD, if we win 2-1 we win by away goals

But football is like that, you may repeat the same eleven, play well, pass well, and the ball might not hit the net. Football will be about tactics and team selection and stuff like that, but so many times at top levels what really makes a difference is a good dosis of talent, in this case brought by Torres.

Your right Sabes, the game is normally decided by a flash of inspiration, a mistake, a piece of luck, a refereeing decision etc. The tiniest of details decide football matches.

This is why I can never take seriously the pro-rotationers "Rafa-style" who use the "but I can't accept rotation as the sole reason for our poorer peformances" mantra. Nobody of course is suggesting that rotation si the sole reason for a poor performance, the suggestion is merely that it doesn't help. At best, you get away with it, at worst it badly has an effect on performance.

Tonight we had a choice. Carry forward some confidence into the game by picking largely the same team. Those players would have taken the field remembering that they put in a top performance against Newcastle, looking around at their teammates and remembering what they did well. We chose not to do that, we chose to change the left midfielder, the right midfielder and both of the two central midfileders. Now obviously if you change all four of the midfielders you are going to have some effect on the performance. It's not bound to be a negative effect, but the team is clearly not going to play in the same way. We did that by choice, and it was a good day for rotation, we won the game, in the end convincingly.

it might have been different, and by all accounts for a long time it looked like it might be, but it wasn't.
