I wish Torres's injury would have come on the last day of the season. Then he wouldn't go to South Africa with Spain.

Well not by any means for the first time, the bizarre decision to try and go through half the season with only one credible option as striker looks like being brought into sharp focus. No sooner had we taken the decision to go down that route than Torres and Gerrard got injured, and once again we are in the same boat. History if written from a dispassionate perpective won't look kindly on that decision I don't think.

As many have said though, given the abject nature of the opposition it shouldn't matter too much. David N'gog should be more than adequate. Just how odd the whole Keanegate fiasco was though will be brought home should people choose to watch either of the knife edge Champions League semi final second legs this week. Unlike the other members of the big four we're not involved, but I can't imagine a worse case scenario more graphic than needing say to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit, or needing to get the all important goal after a first leg 0-0 and not having a credible option to play upfront.

It almost certainly won't matter against Newcastle, but it might have done against Arsenal/Man Utd/Barcelona if we hadn't lost to Chelsea.

Would it be

             Reina

Arby  Carra  Agger  Aurelio

Kuyt   Alonso  Masch  Riera

           Gerrard
               Benny

Or

             Reina

Arby  Carra  Agger  Aurelio

Benny   Alonso  Masch  Riera

           Gerrard
               Kuyt

I'd prefer the first option as Kuyt is more effective on the right, and Benny has been excellent in unlocking defences of late.

I suppose there is a 3rd option but I can't see it happening

Newcastle have put out a pretty good side , martins is always a threat his pace is going to be something to worry about . I can't shake this feeling off that we might not get a win today .
