Jamie Carragher has confirmed he will try to claim his deflected goal during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.
Several national news agencies credited the 85th minute strike as an Emanuel Pogatetz own-goal, though most of the Merseyside media - including Liverpoolfc.tv - saw it as Carragher's fifth career goal.

The man himself said: "I want to claim it but it's not the end of the world if I don't get it. I'm hardly going to break any goalscoring records, am I? 

"Middlesbrough performed well. It was a great strike from Mido and, to be honest, I couldn't really see us scoring.

"They defended very well but I've seen that happen so often. We have done it so many times at Anfield, where all of a sudden something just happens in the last 10 minutes and the Kop sucks a goal in.

"We have been doing that for 40 years, since the days of Bill Shankly."

Carragher's goal along with Steven Gerrard's last-gasp winner meant Liverpool spent Saturday night top of the Barclays Premier League.

Chelsea now edge it on goal difference following a 1-0 victory at Wigan, but Carragher claims it is too soon to start looking at the table.

He said: "It is too early in the season to say where we are as a team. The proof that we have improved will be there after several months if we haven't had too many draws and losses.

"There is a lot of pressure when you play for Liverpool and I know what the headlines would have been had we lost to Middlesbrough – they would have said the title's over.

"I'm sure there would have been a lot of criticism of players and the manager had we lost but we are top of the league and that's the difference. That shows what fine lines there are in football."

I hope he gets it, he didn't score last season so it would be nice for him to get this one

Cant see how its not his goal, if its hitting the target in the first place your meant to get it.

And how on earth was uniteds goal credited to Fletcher ?
He never touched it
