LIVERPOOL VS MANCHESTER CITY - Sunday 22nd February 15.00pm ko

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Cool Hand Luke » Sat Feb 21, 2009 9:55 pm

City played last weekend and then travelled to Denmark on Thursday. Our players haven’t had a game since the internationals and even got a few days off so they should be feeling fresh and chomping at the bit. The break came at a nice time.

Aurelio is a good player but truly is made out of glass. Rafa doesn’t like playing him twice in a week so I’d rather save him for the Read Madrid game. Despite his impact against Portsmouth Kuyt has put some horrendous performances in the past couple of months and he may serve us better as an impact player off the bench as one thing he does do is run a lot. Benayoun has been one of our most effective players in the past few games and I hope that is not forgotten due to gap between games. He should start behind Torres.

Looks good Nan but I don't think there's even a small chance that afa on't play Kuyt if he's available. Although many don't like him (and I'm no fan of his myself to be fair) Rafa clearly trusts him as a player for the "must win" big occasion matches.

I just got a feeling in me water he might save Dirk for Wed, Mind you theve all had a nice rest now they must be chomping at the bit for a game of footie, Id prefer Agger along side Carra tomorrow instead of Skrtel. gets the ball out of defence nicly like.

Im absolutly gaggin for this game it seems weve waited ages

:D

wouldnt go with Mascherano, Aurelio, and Lucas in the middle personally but wouldd be interesting to see how we line up with no Alonso and no Gerrard i guess..

We have already seen how void of ideas we could get when the likes of Alonso and Gerrard dont control the play from the middle of the park and i guess the best we could hope for from Lucas IF he starts is that he doesnt go around giving away silly freekicks ...

id play this side..

                                Reina

Arbeloa         Carragher         Skrtel          Insua

Benny          Mascherano       Aurelio         Riera

                      Torres         Babel/Kuyt

doesnt matter much who you pick between Kuyt and Babel really... both pretty useless but every once in a while they come up with the goods.. id have Aurlio ahead of Lucas every day of the week.. if Insua is back then i'd give him a go ahead of dosser..

4-4-2 for this one i think...

With mancs win and extending the lead now to 8 points makes our game against citeh as crucial as ever. A loss will mean good bye to the title this year. Players will be very pressured tomorrow and lets just hope they dont crack..
If we do fail to continue this challenge i would have to admit this has probably been the easier titles mannure could win..
Just hope we push them all the way also would like chelsea to do well get back in the race dont want this to be an easy ride for mannure..

Best line up would be what ace has mentioned few posts above. Main thing is lets win this match get it over and done with and have our stars back for boro..

All considered, i would be suprised if dominate 100%. tough game, esp without stevie or alonso, where is the attacking threat coming from. esp if he plays babel on bench too?

bemusing

If he's learned anything from the game at Fratton Park, he won't risk it. We haven't played a lot of games recently, but do have a relatively busy schedule

Since the game on 28/12/08 we have played eight games in 55 days which is almost exactly one game a week. (P8 W3 D4 L1)

As of today we face four games in 10 days.

I doubt Rafa will put out a weak side for the trip to the Bernie Inn, so I'm guessing a weak side away at the riverside may be the risk he prefers - despite the league supposedly being a priority. They haven't won since November 9th in the league, I have a horrible feeling we'll draw there. Chelsea won there 5-0, but our fixtures just beg for Rafa to rest players given their league position, the proximity of the game to the CL match and the busy schedule. The mancs only have Newcastle away in the league before we play them, through cup finals/fixtures.
