LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - League cup

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Rafas-Y-Fronts » Wed Dec 19, 2007 11:20 pm

Enjoyed the game tonight and thought some of the fringe players did very well....especially Lucas Leiva who was a force in midfield.

Not bothered in the slightest about the result but more the circumstances with which we lost.

Frank Lampard must have about a 70% deflection ratio on his goal tally during his career.

Personally I would have been embarrassed to claim that goal tonight!

I can't take anyone seriously who is actually upset or frustrated that we have been knocked out of the Carling Cup as it is not significant in the slightest to our season.

The team selection was good and we matched Chelsea quite comfortably.

I thought we passed the ball well tonight and on another night might have nicked a win if we had taken a few of the chances we had in the first half.

The Crouch challenge is easy to sympathise with as Mikel was kicking him and roughing him up.

We all make heated decisions from time to time and Crouch is no different.

Mikel's reaction should certainly carry a similar ban for blatant and disgraceful feigning injury. It will be interesting to see if anything is done about that.

One thing on tonights performance Voronin, and Crouch where absolutley sh!te people have been abusing Kuyt but fuck me even he aint as bad as them two.

Maybe they cant play together or havent played enough together but we are LFC and I have to be honest they where awful for two Liverpool forwards.

Im glad we are out in a way cant afford more games but the fringe players arnt going to be happy not getting a game.

Thought we done well the first half but no clinical finish again, this has to be sorted, when Torres and Gerrard dont play we look quite ordinary, but still Chelsea had their first team out and looked more ordinary.

Us nor Chelsea have a patch on that Arsenal team that played last night that second team of Arsenals would be second in the league now, where the fuck does Wenger find them?

Crouch's lack of speed is a problem.

With Voronin, he did OK, but Manhattan is convinced that Voro's hair is just too damn heavy.

It's not about a carling or FA or PL cup encounter for me, it's Lfc vs a PL team and a must win for us at all cost.

More so as we came so far to be in the qtr-finals for this particular cup-tie and we gave it up. It hurts.
:(

It's not about the pride. It's only a choice.
If you don't have a super team to win every cup, you have to balance your focus. Our manager made his choice to concentrate on the more important game on the weekend. And I think it's a right choice. :lookaround

I thought sissoko played alot better tonight, his attackive passing in perticuler. Leiva looked really good. I still think it wouldnt of hurt playing Kuyt or Torres up to though, i can understand resting players and stuff but an apperence of the bench could have given us a draw.

OK, now, we move into a mellower, reflective and calming area.

I'm guessing that not a lot of people who post on here are from Liverpool right? I dont really care if it was a Carling cup match, it was a final, and it was against Chelsea, next match is in the premiership anyway so that doesnt matter to Rafa , champions league is ages away yet so why rest players tonight? :p Afterall he gave up against Reading didnt he  :rasp

Had we picked a strong team for this (ie included our two best players) it would have been ridiculous. He picked a sensible team under the circumstances, and in reality if winning this depends upon us risking injuries to our best players then no thanks.

YOU DO NOT RISK YOUR BEST PLAYERS IN THE CARLING CUP, UNLESS THEY ARE COMING BACK FROM INJURY.

been watchin reds for best part of 30 years and i just dont see how people can continually defend some of the managers decisions. in the interviews he will never give a straight answer to a direct question. im happy for him to carry on with the club as i dont see any better options out there but the simple fact is that we should be playing far better football with the players we have got!!!!! we're too cautious in the way we play. even in the last few mins we were still knocking the ball sideways! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!! :no

The thing which seems to work so well is the fact those youngsters from day 1 at arsenal are playing the same way and system as the first team.  The slot into the 1st team like they havent ever seen any different.  Still it helps they are technically v v good and full of pace.  Moving the ball at quick speed and moving into space seems to be easy for them.  I could see them beating chelsea in the final this year.

Wenger breeds his young players in a secret base in central Africa.

Technically it would be a valid answer.
