LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - League cup

But before we go any further here, some of the posters on here need to grow up and leave the manager alone. Had we picked a strong team for this (ie included our two best players) it would have been ridiculous. He picked a sensible team under the circumstances, and in reality if winning this depends upon us risking injuries to our best players then no thanks.

YOU DO NOT RISK YOUR BEST PLAYERS IN THE CARLING CUP, UNLESS THEY ARE COMING BACK FROM INJURY.

never looked promising.  Would have taken Momo off to put El Zhar on instead of Alonso, but I guess it was because he was getting back to fitness, anycase I would have taken Momo off to put on Yossi.

Itandje had a bunch of great saves, and the goal was fluky, but I still think Reina would have saved the first one, not to slot Itandje though.  ANd the 2nd was a result of having no time left, man down, goal down at Chelsea.

They were missing Terry and Drogba, but I still have to say we had the much weaker squad. Itandje and Hobbs can't really be called part of the rotation, same with El Zhar off the bench. Also, Voronin is on the border of category how the hell did he play so well against Besiktas.

End of the day, they have more quality in depth than we do thats a fact.  PLaying away and with that fluky goal didn't help.

Cara played great, you can tell he is gutted with the loss

A win against Pompey makes it all better, but there is a lot more pressure to do so, and we have to find the confidence out of nothing so to speak.

Why?

Unless another team has won this cup seven times, no one can say anything.

ive used that excuse already....even i am getting a bit tired of it,  we never have bragging rights these days, the only one i can think of is the CL semi final 2005......
we never do the business against chelsea, arsenal or chelsea these days...granted chelsea and utd were always bogey teams when we were winning leagues left right and centre.
I think we need another striker like an anelka and a couple of wingers who can beat their men and get quality crosses in....we are too one dimensional at times.......

Well we didnt play great, but we didn't play horrible either. Lucas showed good signs, perhaps should have scored in the first half, around 25 minutes in.

But good effort by the predominantly 2nd team. Good to see Xabi get through the match without injury.... his clearance in the 2nd half was a bit awkward tho :p

Now looking to Pompey in what really is, MUST WIN.... again

Do what Manhattan does.

If we get beat in the Carling Cup, just dismiss it and say "meh, we didn't care about it anyway".

If we win the Carling Cup, you say "YAY!!!! We won the Carling Cup!!!!"

I have no problem with rafa resting the big guns however that still doesnt hide the fact that to many players we had out there tonight are not good enough for LFC and never will be.  Our squad isnt that strong.  Experience wise it may look better than arsenal's for instance but I would rather have some of those kids than the likes of Yossi, Vorinin, and Aurellio

not really bothered about the game tbh, we could probably do without being in the carling cup really

anyway, enough of that - how cr@p are chelsea fans!?

"who are ya! who are ya!"
"you'll never get a job..."
"your support is fackin sh*t"

they're a proper sad shower of sh*t - they're like the lower league teams' fans who follow eng-er-land everywhere. i thought they were gonna start doing the "woooooah you're sh*t aaaaaarrrgh" every time we had a goal kick    whoppers the lot of 'em

Couldn't put it better by meself. :nod

Besides the injury risk, they do need some rest. We have more importmant games than Carling cup.
