Rafa's doing a Mourinho slightly there, I'm sure Gerrard will be fine.

I'm hoping we take three points from this one, it will be a pyshcologial blow to Mourinho and his boys if we win this.

Leave Mascherano and Alonso to sort out Fat Frank and Essien and play Stevie on the right to stop Malouda/Cole.

Crouch to start if Terry doesn't make it ?

                          Reina

    Finnan   Carragher  Agger       Riise

    Gerrard  Alonso    Mascherano Babel

                 Torres     Voronin/Crouch

just let me understand this, you would take away our biggest threat, gerrard in center midfield to counter one of their threats, so you want to weaken our team and our midfield?

???

Weaken ?, it doesn't weaken us its gives us an advantage to exploit an obvious weakness that they have at the moment, who do Chelsea have left back at the moment, does Malouda strike you as the sort of winger who is going to track back to help his left back ? not in the games i have seen of theirs so far. Gerrard is a better crosser of the ball than Pennant and a lot more disciplined, and Chelsea struggled against both Birmingham and Reading with balls crossed into the box without Terry, if Terry isn't fit then play Crouch thats two weakness exploited

Is playing him in the centre partly to stop the threat of Lampard and Essien  or just because it is his best position ? if it is to stop Lampard and Essien then it is no different than playing him on the right.

Whoever plays the left side for us better rip the arse out of Glen Jonhson.

I watched the lad play the last 2 games for Chelsea and he's been targeted and the opposition have got a lot of joy out of him. He just doesn't know how to defend and I sincerely hope we put a natural left footer out there to take the piss out of him.

Kewell would be perfect.

Also any news on Carvalho?

He's a big loss like Terry IMO,who unfortunately is deffo back according to Mourinho, but at least he aint 100%.

so if they have a problem on the left pennant can expose that. lampard and essien would love to see gerrard out there.

we made this problem too many times last season altering our team and worrying about them, let them worry about us with gerrard in his most effective position, in the position where he can dictate the game. gerrard and mash in the middle, pennant on the right

playing him in the center is not to stop lampard and essien, its because thats where he is more effective, by a long way

Completely agree. In his Autobiography he makes it clear how much he hates playing out there. He is our best player lets play him in his best position to get the most out of him. Pennant is getting there and he has done well against Chelsea in the past.

I dont know how bad Gerrards situation would be, and I dont know if its worth risking him.

But just incase I think I'd line my team up like this :D

                                         Reina

                  Finnan      Carra       Agger      Arbeloa

                  Pennant    Sissoko   Mascha        Babel

Essien to miss Liverpool showdown

Jose Mourinho has lost Michael Essien from his Chelsea midfield again because of a knee injury which will sideline him for up to 10 days.

The Ghana international will miss Wednesday's trip to Reading and Sunday's game at Liverpool after damaging ligaments in the win against Birmingham

Thank goodness for this.  Now we wont have to worry about Essien stomping on Stevie's toe.

Leave SG in the middle, with Mascha or Alonso, and take him off once we secure the lead.  Bring on Sissoko to throw some tackles around once Stevie is safe back in the training room.

This match is the perfect example of what our attitude needs to be this season.  Play to OUR strengths, not to combat other teams options.  Put JP or Babel on the right to run at Cole, and put Riise on the left to tear up Johnson.

Make Chelski play our game, not the other way around.

Would you really play Sissoko before Alonso in a team without Steve Gerrard.

Sissoko is a risk as he cannot pass a ball to save his life, and Mascha (who I believe is brilliant) is not really the best at creating chances.

If Gerrard is not playing Alonso has to play, alongside Mascha.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

I agree, I think mascha and Sissoko are good players in there own right, but IMO as a partnership they are terrible.

My team would be

                            Reina

Finnan        Carra            Agger            Arbeloa

                            Alonso

Pennant/Yossi                                    Babel
                            Gerrard

                                        Torres

Riise has to start this one. He's got a great record against Chelsea, and I'd be stunned if Arbeloa got the nod.

Pennant and either Kewell (if fit) or Babel on the wings. No messing here - we have specialists in these positions, and these are the games we need to play our lads in their best positions.

Gerrard and Alonso in the middle, with both Mascherano and Sissoko on the bench, seeing as though Stevie's carrying an injury. Not really fussed about who starts up front, as all are looking good right now. I'm guessing Voronin will feature as at least a sub just to make the point that our freebie Ukrainian looks to be a better signing than their £30m waste of space.

                   Reina

Finnan     Carra     Agger     Riise

Pennant  Gerrard   Alonso   Kewell/
                                      Babel
             Torres    Crouch
                           Kuyt
