LIVERPOOL VS CHELSEA - Community shield build up here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Do they still share the Community Shield if it's a draw?

Or will it go to penalties?

That would be my line up, ideally I would prefere 2 up front.

This would mean dropping a midfielder, however with Sissoko (or Alonso) holding, the central midfielders mainly Gerrard could push forward.

That is probably the formation I would use, I would prefer a 4-4-2 but with Fowler out that is the strongest formation I can think of. During the second half I would take Pennant out and move midfield as ace had said with king Luis as secondary striker

too bad Fowler is out with the knee injury, I was looking forward to see him pairing up with Bellamy.

Benitez sends his Reds troops into battle with the Blues on Sunday in the Community Shield in Cardiff.

And the Anfield boss dismisses the intimidation of their chequebook and believes his men can now truly challenge them at the top.

"They spend more than everybody else every summer, but when we put a side on the pitch against them they know we will match them," he said.

"We have beaten them in cup competitions, it does not matter how much money they spend, 11 against 11 for us always gives us a chance."

He added: "People could see the improvements against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League, although we know we need too improve.

"We could see the quality with Jermaine Pennant, we have seen Craig Bellamy score and play well, and we still have Fabio Aurelio waiting as he recovers from injury. I think we have signed the right players.

"Compared to last season we have a better squad and week after week we will have a better team as well."

Liverpool will again be without striker Robbie Fowler (knee) and defender Aurelio (calf) at the Millennium Stadium.

Benitez said: "If they really had to play they would, but it is not important for this game, we would rather wait until next weekend."

Nice ! i'd say... we lose 3-1 but up a good fight untill late in tthe game !

i think we can beat them. i just hope Rafa picks the right players/ formation.

I mean two up front and not gerrard supporting.

team should be.

finnan  Carra  Palletta   Riisse.

Pennant Sissoko/Alonso  Gerrard  Gonzalez

               Garcia
                      Bellamy.

i want to see gonzalez for at least 70 mins. Zenden im not too keen on, and sissoko, alonso and gerrard...any two from three.

I think this will be a very useful match with one week to the season to go. No matter what competition it is, its against Chelsea so the players will be desperate to win so the competitive nature will be there both mentally and physically, I except they will be running to the maximum and getting a real good work out. It will put us ahead in terms of fitness and sharpness both physically and mentally so it will help us hit the ground running in the league. I think we should use a nice mix of players and look for a balance in the team more than anything else, I might be tempted to leave one or two players on bench just to play down the significance of any result to guard against complacency in case of a win or depression in the case of a loss. I think we can name 7 subs and use 5, so players like Sissoko and Bellamy can be used to change the game in the second half.

                        Reina

Kromkamp  Carrgher    Hyypia    Riise

Pennant     Gerrard     Alonso    Gonzalez

                 Garcia     Crouch

Bench

Fowler
Bellamy
Sissoko
Zenden
Agger/ Paleta
Finnan
Dudek

Agreed about this formation.

I don't think Rafa will drop either Sissoko or Alonso. Zenden will be on bench and Gonzalez to start, hopefully. 80% chance that Rafa will use a 4-5-1 formation, although i prefer the 4-4-2 formation.

I would love to see the team winning tommorow, but i'm not confident about it. Unless our midfield combo of Gerrard, Sissoko and Alonso can win the battle in the middle of the park.
