Jamie Carragher call to end penalty agony

JAMIE CARRAGHER has a fool-proof theory that he knows will turn Liverpool into champions - stop giving away penalties.
Spot-kicks are the only goals Liverpool have conceded in any competition so far this season, and goalkeeper Jose Reina goes into tomorrow's home Premier League match with Birmingham having not been beaten in open play since eight minutes from time in last season's Champions League final in Athens.
That is when AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi broke away to net what was to be the eventual winner in the Olympic Stadium.
In eight games this term, Reina has conceded just three goals, all from the spot. For good measure, he has saved one penalty, too - the Portsmouth effort last weekend which ensured a 0-0 draw at Fratton Park.
So he is now looking at 728 minutes of senior action since Athens with only penalties flying past him.
The concern, though, for defender Carragher is that Liverpool have already given away four penalties in just eight matches.
The defender said: "It is just one of those strange things.
"The disappointing thing is all the penalties we have given away have not really been goal scoring chances.
"And we are not giving many chances away in open play and that is something we have got to be proud of. All we need to do is stop giving penalties away."
Looks like Jamies nailed it
