though that number seems a little high, he was right about the 14 million benfica fans... its proven that almost 5 million in Portugal are from Benfica, and with the emmigrants all over the world we can push up to some 2 million, but if we add the ex african colonies the number goes well high... Angola and Mozambique fans can easily push up to 5 million. Though many people around europe sympathize with liverpool, thats not their 1st club, so i dont think liverpool is near that number.
One question, u guys dont have the associate thing in english clubs right? We do, and now we are with almost 160.000 associates, wich (europeen studies) makes us 3rd biggest club.
Cheers

I don't know what's going to happen, but Liverpool are going to have to come with a much more offensive-minded game. With the scoring difficulties you've been having, i wonder, if we play really tightly defensively, whether you can score.
I'm looking forward to the next round, because if the last one was a bore, on account of both team's strategy, the next will have to be really quite good, much more open and fast. Especially with Gerrard playing from the beginning, it will be that much more exciting, and i can already see the intense pressure Liverpool will have us under. But i also see some swift counter attacks by Simao & Co here and there that will have Liverpool fans struggling for air, seeing as how important it is for you guys that we don't score.
I want to see what Benitez will come up with to get out of this one.  :)

SL BENFICA, "vai para o caralho conas de merda",you club isn't even bigger than chelsea,i bet even totenham and everton are bigger than you,and i bet your former colony  brazil has no support towards your club, you club had it's time in the "60's",no wonder you are small fish in a big pond, whereas liverpool are a big fish in a big sea

So its proven half your country are Benfica fans? Taking into account that your 11 million total population is counting children that dont know how to speak yet and women ??? ? (sorry to the ladies in the forum, dont mean to be offensive as I know there are great female supporters but most fans are men) you really must be dreaming... The most popular leagues in the world are probably first the Spanish league, followed by English, then Italian, German and finaly Argentinian (Argentinian league is HUGE in the Americas). If lucky, Benfica have 5 million supporters IN THE WORLD (I did mention IF lucky). Benifica can't be compared to teams in the big leagues such as Milan, Inter, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Boca Juniors, Manchester United (hate them, but they are a huge team too) and of course Liverpool Football Club. If you are going to talk about figures, first make some research. Hell first see how many fans there are in your own country then come back to try to make a valid argument.

Seriously this has been done to death. Who in all honesty actually cares who has the most "worldwide fans"? Probably if you stuck up a poll on the internet Man City would win it on account of their right-back (I think he's Chinese but I might be wrong). It's all nonsense.
Benfica are a huge club, particularly in Portugal and they have a proud history. Whether or not they are a bigger club than Liverpool is a moot point and frankly irrelavent. The only thing that matters right now is the result in the second leg.
My own feeling is that Benfica have a magnificent stadium and very passionate home support. That said, the volume and fervour the home fans generated was nothing compared to the big nights at Anfield and I suspect a combination of this, and the simple and indisputeable fact that Liverpool have a superior team at the moment, should be enough to see them through. It will be close though and whichever team loses will still be a big club.
My regret is that it takes incidents like the desperately unlucky Sissoko to bring fans to their senses and make them behave like human beings. Which is the biggest club has been done to death, it's time to find out which is the better team.
