LIVERPOOL VS ATHLETICO MADRID - Anfield : 04/11/08, 19.45pm

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Cool Hand Luke » Tue Nov 04, 2008 11:16 pm

There were some real tired touches out there tonight, all those games fighting and giving 100% to the bitter end may just be catching up with a few.

I thought Alonso was absolutely outstanding, head and shoulders our best player, Agger also had a good game.

Not sure what happened with Kuyt, he had an absolute stinker.

Keane again looked out of his depth. He will do a decent job if he playing in a 4-4-2 but in other system he is pretty useless.

Sick of having sacks of sh.ite forwards and wingers who can't score or attack in general and would make better defenders

Hopeless without Torres, jesus christ when are we going to get asuitable partner for him

thought mascha and alonso were good today especially alonso. Gerrard's first touch has been a let down tonight

I think Xabi and Masch is too negative in the midfield.  I don't know what we're doing once Torres is healthy but hopefully it goes back to Stevie/Xabi with Keane/Torres up front.

Keane has gotta be the most expensive LUMP that lfc have ever signed and despite all the money we've spent we have to resort to bringing NGOG on !

:no

£20 million for keane was insane.

We were fckin poor in every area of the pitch and saying that our fullbacks were probably the bet performers today kind of says it all really..

Rafa got it all wrong again today with the subs and the one man upfront setup but we got lucky yet again !
Need Torres back asap because atm, we'r a poor poor side with no attacking threat whatsoever !

Riera in the 4-2-3-1 goes missing and defo doesnt get the best out of him... same with gerrard, alonso, keane, pennant..etc...
need to start playing to our strengths and for now that would be going back to a 2man upfront setup..

You should get an award for being the most consistent shi'te talker on this board!

We are a poor poor side, sitting top of the League.
We have beaten UTD,Chelsea(away) and won in probably the biggest derby in Europe(away) as well.We have 10 points out of 12 in the C/L and are a certainty to qualify!

Not bad for a "poor poor side"
We are far from polished and excellent but who do we aspire to be?
Chelsea that got beat 3-1 by Roma tonight?

great...
you keep coming on this forum and saying we'r the best side in the world and should have won after every game we'v been sht at and u'll be making a lot of friends ..

god forbid u come out and give a sensible assesment of the game once in a while...

while the manutd and chelsea wins were huge for us i dont think that changes the fact that we'r a poor side going forward one bit.. chelsea game we played well but wouldnt go as far as saying we attacked welll.. manutd game was won by 2 lucky goals so dont see howw that makes us such a great side going forward either... pretty much every game we played 1 striker upfront when torres wasnt available we'v struggled to score and more often than not it was bringing  a second striker and a winger to play very wide that saved us games... but then again i wouldnt expect u to notice anything !

EDIT: Btw... sorry to burst your bubble Sunshine but we dont have 10 point in the CL !  and i didnt get the Chelsea part ?! are you suggesting we'r a better a side cause we drew and they lost ? maybe cause we beat them in the league?

I still blame Rafa for Keane's lack of productivity.  N'gog for Keane?!  Maybe he still wouldn't have been worth 20m but he'd be a lot better off than he is now.  I dunno, Rafa has shot his confidence time and time again.  He has it in him to be quality let the man sort himself out on the pitch not on the bench.  He had the chance today then set up Gerrard another time but was still benched, eh.

I would agree that taking him off so often doesnt help the player as the player must be thinking he cant do anything right.  To spend £20 mil on a player, I expect the boss to have a plan on how to get the best out of him but it doesnt look likely.

I agree mate , but what else can we do? Bring back Voronin  :lookaround

I'm not about to start a Voronin fan club BUT if you had Voronin and Ngog on the bench for a CL game WHO would you have brought on ?

Don't want too get carried away with my disappointment , no complaints about our defence or midfield BUT in the final third, in terms of clinical finishing, we're looking distinctly clueless.

£20 million for Keane ? do me a f'ucking favour ,It's time he stepped up to the plate instead of just dipping his hand into it

Ace don't waste your breath you will never ever convince the rose tinted loonies that rafa ever makes a mistake or convince them that just because Liverpool have possession and are rolling the ball back and forth harmlessly in their own half that that means we dominate a team.
In my opinion it was another bloody infuriating match to watch, the only real class was Atleticos superb goal and the neat one-two between Stevie and Keane just before Keane was inexplicably subbed.
Can someone please tell me what the logic was in taking Keane off, I fully agree he wasn't having a great match but to bring on a youngster into a Champions League game when we need a goal is a bit optimistic isn't it and what does it do for Keane's morale?
The team played ok'ish or about as good as they are capable of, lots of predictable passes which Atletico intercepted, especially in the first half and very standard attack patterns which were all to easy to defend against. Without Torres we just don't seem to have any cutting edge and yet again our finishing of the few chances we did have was bloody woeful!
On a psoitive note I thought we defended well including Mascha and Alonso but in attack it was cr@p.

we didnt play well !
Only reason we 'dominated' was because Atletico sat a little deeper in the second half to shut us down knowing we didnt pose much threat going forward anyways.. it worked pretty well towards the end with us hoofing the ball and crossing it with little purpose and intent. We got lucky and i think its fair to criticize the team and tactics after such a dissapointing display !
