LIVERPOOL VS ASTON VILLA - Mon 21st Jan 8pm - Pre Match Discussion & team speculations

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dundalk » Thu Jan 17, 2008 11:17 am

Our next match is Aston Villa on Monday night.

This is going to be a tough one. They are in good form and Young and Gabby Agbonlahor look dangerous on the wings. I would worry about what they might do to Riise if he plays. We've had far too many draws recently, especially at home so it'd be great to get a win against a good team like Villa.

Lets face it we could do with a good win in the League to kickstart our season. Is  Skrtel fit to play in this one??

2-0

They look extremly dangerous on set-pieces.

How many times have Laursen scored allready?

It's crazy

This is going to be a really difficult one.  Villa are a very fast counter attacking team and I'm sure they will give our back four a lot of problems(especially Hyppia).  It will however be really interesting to see what kind of midfield Rafa would pick for this one.  My bet would be that Rafa will go for Gerrard and Mash midfield, but I think we'll need Alonso for this one too.

               Reina
Arbeloa,Carragher,Hyppia,Aurelio
              Mascherano
           Alonso    Gerrard
    Pennant                 Babel
                Torres

aston villa is really not a joke... under o'neil they have really good structure about them... but this is our home game and we have to win it... I like club levi's team... but I still think that gerrard should play in the middle... we played our very natural game against luton the other day even though they are an inferior side... but we can see that our players are moving around naturally and this is what i like to see... not a static performace... I'd go with:

.....................Reina........................

Finnan...........Cara........Hyppia.........Riise

Penant.........Gerrad.. .Masch/Lucas........Kewell

..................Babel/Kuyt........Torres...............

would like to see babel up front with torres but we all know that is very unlikely to happen... so I'd go with kuyt......

Reina
Arbeloa Carra Hyypia Aurelio
Benayoun Gerrard Alonso Kewell
Torres Crouch

is what id like to see, but i think rafa will go for kuyt instead of crouch and riise instead of kewell..

in any case i expect and hope yet again that the players will play their :censored: off in what should be an emotional night with all the sh.it surrounding our club right now.

3-1 to us.

arbeloa?? he has been cr@p mate , boro game has been a classic example recently , riisie would be a better option and to be fair he has not done much wrong defending , it's just that he lacks the goals this season

villa away was tough, and had a great finish (happy early days) Kewell hasn't played since we drew at home to Wigan on the 2nd of the month.
                                 Reina
             Carra            Hyypia       Skrtel
Gerrard                  Mascherano             Aurelio
              Babel          Lucas          Kewell

                                 Torres
obviously far to experimental, but I like this side, especially to shut down Carew, Young, and Agbonlahor, and I also like the potential in this team's ability to break other teams down.  You could argue it lacks width, but our squad lacks with.

Benitez Stays Focused On Football

The rumours of a schism between Liverpool's Tom Hicks and George Gillett, and speculation that the Dubai International Capital investment company are circling, ready to make a bid, are like clouds hanging over Anfield at the moment - but the manager is concentrating purely on football matters.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is fully focused on team affairs despite the unhelpful and potentially destabilising rumours swirling around Anfield concerning the club's ownership and his own position with Liverpool.

It was revealed this week that Jurgen Klinsmann had been offered his job by nthe American owners, who dressed it up as a contingency plan should Benitez leave, although he has repeatedly stressed that he wants to remain the Liverpool manager.

The Reds don't play Aston Villa until Monday night, by which time they could have fallen 15 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.

Against this morale-sapping background, Benitez is sticking unwaveringly to his approach and on Friday spoke positively about the spirit in his squad.

The players held their belated Christmas fancy-dress party this week, and though Rafa did not attend it, he said: "The relationship with the players is fantastic.

"I didn't go to the party, but I would have gone in a tracksuit," he replied when asked by journalists if he would have gone dressed as an American or an Arab.

Benitez had refused to talk about the club's approach to Klinsmann after the 5-0 midweek FA Cup vivtory over Luton Town.

But on Friday he said he had not spoken to the Americans since the news that the former Germany boss - now due to take over at Bayern Munich in the summer -  had been lined up as his replacement.

And on an upbeat note he added: "I've been preparing for the game against Aston Villa, so I haven't picked up the phone, but the communication is much better now."

Great sense of humour regarding the trackie

Aston Villa are going strong, but at home with almost a whole week to prepare and only Sissoko and Agger not available, we should in have no problem beating them. Losing or drawing this match would put a huge amount of pressure on Rafa. I would go with the following:

                       Reina

Finnan    Carragher    Hyypia    Aurelio

Benayoun  Gerrard  Mascherano Babel

                Torres    Crouch

Subs

Kuyt
Kewell
Alonso
Arbeloa
Itandje
