Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Just been on Bluekipper what fun. From reading it you would think it was them we were playing. One bitter came out and said "I don't usually say this but COME ON UNITED". Was so tempted to say "don't usually say this? you :censored: bitters say it every season because you poxy team is never in a postion to stop us" but i don't want to blow my cover.

stmichael wrote:still coming down after what will go down as another one of those memorable european nights to put in the anfield scrapbook. i haven't seen a full rerun of the game yet, but if it's as good as it seemed live it'll be quite a treat. the pace of the game was frightening and the atmosphere was electric. infact i think you had to be there to really appreciate just how good some of arsenal's early play was. their movement was dragging us all over the place and until hyypia scored we never really got going at all.

but i suppose it just proves that you can never ever write us off, especially in europe. the attitude, desire and experience we showed was top class, and as the game went on, arsenal seemed to tire for me. torres was quiet but the goal was class and then for some inexplicable reason we ended up getting caught four against three on the counter attack when we didn't need to commit men forward. when adebayor's goal went in you were fearing the worst.

babel changed the game as it got stretched obviously. ok it was a soft penalty but i can see why it was given. toure knew he was running the risk by getting so close to babel when he was running at great speed into the area.

notable mentions to skrtel and kuyt by the way. both were outstanding.

onwards and upwards.

I'd fast forward until the Hyppia header though  :wwww

I've also got a smile on my face today, especially since I'm sitting right opposite a gooner  :rasp  :rasp

Fantastic game. Kuyt, Torres and most of all Babel played very well.

We shouldn't have started with Crouch as it ruined our play in the first half and I don't think Gerrard was comfortable on the left.

Another great night and Chelsea are weaker than they were last year and have an inferior manager, so I believe that we'll progress to the final, and hopefully go all the way again :)

how great was that performance in the second half.i feel so proud to be a liverpool fan, despite the desperate efforts of loser manure-nited and arsenal fans who work in the media.even when they made it 2-2 i felt we would go through .

stick that up your arsenal.

This was  Aldo's closing comments after the game:
"Bye bye Wenger, that was for 1989. That was for Arsenal hurting me and hurting our fans, and rubbing our noses in it, Out you go!"

What a legend!! :D

Just managed to get outa bed... rough as.

anyway, the game...

Arsenal - first 25 minutes played some of the best football I've ever seen... awesome football absolutely.  We couldn't get a look in but we were poor.  The gunners passed the ball out of defence all the way to our goal and we, well, 2 touches and then hoof it - very disappointing.  After our goal we improved a bit but overall I thought we were poor in the first half.

Said to my mate... "its gonna be a game of two half's"

Huge improvement in the 2nd half and I thought we were good value... leading 2-1 was always gonna be "dodgy" and we pushed for the vital 3rd goal... what a run by Walcott, it reminded my very much of Owen at his best or even Maradonna's 2nd goal in the "Hand of God" game.

Penalty?  Yes!

We also scored a 4th so Wenger can fuck off.

Special mentions...

Torres - a wonderful player.  Out on the flanks too much for my liking but he proved to be better than any of the "wingers" that we have.  He is just awesome, we are blessed to have a player of his calibre in our team.

Kuyt - probably man of the match over the 2 games.

Gerrard - terrific under pressure.

Sami - great display and took his goal well... IMO one of our greatest signings

Rafa - I could feel his frustration over that first half performance, I would loved to have been a fly on the wall at the interval.

Chelsea??? If there's one team out for revenge then its them.  Massive massive games coming up.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

says it all really.

A few dodgy moments from time to time but overall what a result. Everyone who played deserves credit and another special praise to Benitez who got it spot on with his subsitution of Babel.

My assestment of the players:
Reina - little dodgy and panicky at times, but did well at times as well
Carra - man of the match of for me. up and down that line reminded me of Phil Neal. Great play.
Skrtel - although he goes walkabouts at times and is attracted to the ball, he played out of his skin. well done lad.
Hyypia - what a bullet header just to prove man marking is no better than zonal laugh: his defensive duties were spot on as well.
Aurelio - decent first half, few wasteful passes in the second but kept Eboue quiet for most of the game so again well played.
Kuyt - another typical Dirk Kuyt performance. Working hard and doing the donkey work for the side. Kept Clichy quiet all night. (2nd in terms of MOTM)
Alonso - struggled first half, came into his own second. Did well enough.
Mascherano - same as Alonso.
Gerrard - made us lose our shape by constantly coming in off the flank, but still there when we needed him most.
Torres - another goal that's his job. Few occasions he could of passed rather than try it all on his own, but he was superb again.
Crouch - did all he could. Any long ball up towards him he won. He didn't have his best game but he did well enough.
Babel - changed the game. Pace against tired legs. Definante pen and a goal to boot. Well played lad, shut the critics up.
Riise - didn't do a lot but did enough to ensure we went through.
Arbeloa - don't think he touched the ball but deserves credit none the less.
Benitez - looked as if he'd :censored: it up in the first 25/30 mins but after our first goal (hyypia) we look comfortable till the end...other than their goal and the last five mins when they needed to equalise.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Was anyone else screaming at Mascherano to play the early ball to Torres when we had them 3 on 2 on the counterattack prior to Adebayor's equalizer?  A nice early ball into space for Torres to run on to and a simple square ball to Gerrard in the box and it's 3-1 and we're home and dry!  That one did my head in...thankfully I love the lad and thought he put in another awesome shift last night! :D

he's meant to be a penalty expert by all accounts. Always takes them in training.

He took one for England in euro 2004...well he took two because the first one was disallowed.

But after Gerrard's pen last night, I'd leave it to the skipper.
