LIVERPOOL VS. ARSENAL - Tuesday, April 8th - 2nd leg of the quarterfinals

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JoeTerp » Wed Apr 09, 2008 4:24 am

my emotions from the game are so crazy, I was so down after their first goal, and it just looked like we weren't going to score then I flipped the switch and was real pumped after hyypia's header, plus we started playing a lot better and looking like it was even and slightly in favour of us even though there were still few actual goal threatening situations. THen the torres moment of brillance came and i was absolutely elated and we really started dominating the game and the third looked on the cards and I was absolutley shocked at theos run and couldn't believe that nobody took him out, i was so depressed yet my heart was still racing form the thrill of the torres feeling and I never really emotionally recovered and was more in a state of shock for the penalty and Babel's goal.  I still don't even feel THAT happy because I was so drained from torres goal and then Theo's run, my body  was having none of it

Rafa   :bowdown .........

Just win us the champions league rafa and you have my vote to stay here until your contract ends.... :D  And I will try my best not to mention mourinho here too..... :p

Let me get it straight if we win big ears again and 3rd final in 4 years you still wouldnt give Rafa a new contract??
Just glad the money men arent as daft. :no

Jesus.......you make it sound as if I am the one who is handlling the contract negotiations....  :Oo:

All i am saying is that he is free to stay until the end of his contract....If he decides to extend it...then great. If he wants to go to real madrid...then thats his decision....

Do i have to spell it out......

Even when i am praising rafa, i get questioned by M0R0Ns....

Kuyt had an immense game , found spaces on the wing , set up some nice counter and worked hard as usual

Question...

Just wanted some clarification on the yellow card that Gerrard has been "holding" from the second leg of the last round with Inter Milan. Does that yellow card stay on his back throughout the Champions League or does it get cancelled out at any time? Will he have to go the rest of the Champions League without getting a yellow card in order to prevent being suspended for the following game?

anyway joking aside, what a great game of football, in my opinion brought about by a willingness from the players to get stuck in and fight and some fantastic skill levels, not just from torres, but walcotts run was also brilliant, sami's header was pure quality, gerrards nerve for the penalty, maschs scrapping for everything, skirtel and gerrard and fabio at the back with sami also played some great football, and kuyt has his face improved by a boot to the nose.

it has been a long time since i have been riveted by a game like that

probably not the best performance this season, but definitely is the best game this season, best spirits and determination. this is to be one of the most remembered matches in LFC history. it's a slight leveler to a classic 1996 game that saw liverpool trashing newcastle 4-3

btw, let's enjoy reading arsene whinger:

"That makes it doubly difficult, and doubly hard to accept. If you lose against a team who you feel are better than you, then fair enough. But that's not the impression we got after these two matches."

When you give Kuyt an overall 7 for his pass that lead to Babels's goal, you also have to give Crouch a 7 for getting the ball to Torres that lead to his goal.
IMO everyone a 7, was a geat team effort.

PS Walcott a 6.5 ?? That run was immense.

Tried to post this last night, but the site went down before I could finish (thank god for copy and paste :D  )

OH

MY

GOD

What a game. I think I need to say it again - WHAT A GAME. I've not experienced highs and lows like that since, oh AC Milan, Alaves, Olympiakos et all. :D I'm still coming down from the game and my head is in a spin, but i'm gonna try to analyse tonights performance.

First 20 minutes, it was pure and simple - Men against Boys. Not since Marseille at home have I seen us look so ragged and disjointed, especially in Midfield. We simply did not keep a shape and Arsenal exploited our lack of discipline and nerves, it appeared. To only be 1-0 down after those first 20 was the only plus I could garnish from it.

Our first goal really didn't come from any sort of extended period of pressure, just silly marking. And wasn't Wenger furious with the goal. It dramatically shifted the dynamic of the game and it was that stroke of fortune that really got us out of our shell and dragged us back into the game. Monumental goal from Sami who made it look simply easy. I'm putting the ball there, nothing anyone can do, ta very much. Have that. At that point, I felt another goal before half time was needed to shore our feet and help us through it. It never came and the rollercoaster continued.

The first 5 minutes of the second half was the perfect start and Arsenal simply didn't like it. Then, a strange thing happened. We took our foot off the pedal. Just when we were really getting the upper hand, we let them off. What ensued was a period of knife-edge like intensity that was stupid to let happen on our part. We had the upper hand and let it slip. Shoddy.

Torres' goal couldn't have come at a better time as I felt that the more we slowed the game down, the more we would allow Arsenal on the ball and that is something that you simply cannot do with thier current side. The first 20 mins should have been a dramatic wake up call to Liverpool and yet, we were allowing them the opportunity to do it again! The goal was a simple lump up, Crouch done the usual buffeting but the finish, the finish was breathtaking. Thought Senderos should have closed him down much earlier mind, but Torres as always, made it look simple by comparison.

That feeling that we had the Gods on our side appeared again when Adebayor missed the absolute sitter of a chance, unmarked with all the time in the world. Walcott was bound to cause trouble as I thought he caused us the most problems whenever he played in each of the 3 ties. Aurelio surely should have took one for the team and brought him down (one eye on the potential Semi, perhaps, currently on 2 yellows...? ??? ) and the Arsenal team and fans alike thought they were home dry. Job done. That, it seemed, was their eventual downfall.

Babel has had his critics this year and fully unjustified IMO. I truly believe this lad is absolute quality and will be as good as the best to have played in the Prem. We will see a stronger, bigger Babel next year in the same way we seen Owen and Ronaldo do the same after the intial 'slim whippet' period. His inclusion simply changed the face of the game and he done brilliantly to win the pen - chosing his moment to go down to the best effect.

Gerrard on pens always worries me. Always has. I can never seem to look when he takes one. I can't actually remember the last time he missed one, but i've never been fully convinced. I'm sure a lot will say i'm mad, but I also think there will be a few that will fully understand and agree with my sceptism. But, as always, cometh the hour etc etc.

Finally, Babel's goal showed the one thing that I cry out for Liverpool to do - leave a man out of the box when defending set pieces!! It takes at least 3 players out and was it just me, or did Almunia 'show' Babel virtually the whole goal to aim for? ???

All in all, a game that typifies Liverpool FC. If we started each game a goal down, we would probably win everything as we only know how to win things one way and thats the hard way. Superb result, simply breathtaking and i'm not knocking the lads here. Thought we played right into Arsenals hands with the formation change, yes and thought we took our foot off the gas at a crucial point in the game so there are lessons that need to be learn't and heeded for future games. HOWEVER - we simply are the team to be feared, so bring on Chelsea, Man U, Barcelona - I don't care - we'll take em all on. YNWA :bowdown
