Liverpool v Betis - CONFIRMED TEAM/IN-MATCH DISCUSSION

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Joaquin did nothing today, but then, that's not the common thing to watch. Merits? Riise. TBH I liked the left wing today. Zenden has something that Riise hasn't, but Riise can play as a LB that makes forward runs perfectly, he has the stamina to do that and besides, he defends well. I'd repeat that left wing more times.

riise didnt keep him quite, in the first half he Joaquin went through him but he didn't score because there weren't any space, remeber that chance A.B? in the 2nd half he took him by also going through him a cross but reina caught it.

sabre, did you feel that zenden was a bit slow today in some occasions, for example when he wants to pass he takes his time too much?

Qualification from the group of death and lets face it, its been a doddle, compare that to last season when we had to score 3 goals in 45 minutes in the last game to qualify. Good Performance tonight and should have been a comfortable win, but none the less like Rafa said, we will go for the win but if we get the draw, than it doesnt really matter does it.

As for the Betis fans, they are some fu*king awesome fans and each and everyone of them can be proud of themselves singing Mori's name when he came off and everyone of them  :bowdown as well for him, and after the final whistle after the corner of the main stand was giving them the round of applause they deserved, they start singing "Liverpool...liverpool" and they got plenty of scarfs off supporters in the main stand who took the chance to launch them in, It was a privalige to be there. Quality stuff.

And we can now look to saturday with even more confidence because we look like a team who is hitting its best form since the Rafaloution came to Anfield and long may it continue.

Question: Was one of the line men an ugly woman? I can't tell.

What I did like: Some of the not regulars in the starting eleven did well. Hamman, I like him, he's not impressive, but he's a very serious midfielder. Zenden, eeerm, I was one of the mad people that voted for zenden in the Riise vs Zenden poll I while ago (hope I'm not baned now). I think he has done a decent match.

What I didn't like: On first half, we weren't the owners of the midfield, Betis controled it. On second half we did better on that sense. Sissoko? well, I don't want to criticise him as I see some good details, but his positioning makes me doubt.

Crouch? best example of his work is a ball he struggled in the first part, hold the ball, delivered to Gerrard I think, good cross, but Morientes did not finish well. THAT KIND OF WORK IS IMPORTANT. And the goals will come.

The more I see steve Finnan, the more I like him, we don't need anyone on that place.

Morientes? bah, not his best night. Not bad, neither.

Oh and Gerrard, what a glorious chance ! (it was a great save though).

What was weird they had the most possession but we totally dominated them.

When the players lined up I thought it was a mascott with the cheesy grin laughing its head off, but it turned out to be a woman

He is the Kaiser we rarely loose when he plays I think he is more our talisman than Gerrard, but thats just my opinion plus if it had not have been for him we would not have won the European Cup.

The more I see steve Finnan, the more I like him, we don't need anyone on that place.

Knew you would come round to my way of thinking Sabre  :;):  One of the most underated players in our team, gets on with his job with no fuss excellenty.

Nice one Gary, what did that green and white banner have on it about Anfield what the Betis fans had when YNWA was being played?

Since they are famous for the most sharp and mockering chants in Spain, that should tell you something about the respect liverpol has in my WHOLE country, from the rainy north I live in, to the sunny south. It's also your merit, mate.

CIGGY, missed that banner, but since it's their first CL appearence, and Anfield is a Myth, probably something respecful, let's see if I read it.

Missed it Cigs got in after YNWA, but it will have been something good i assure you.

And Sabre, Betis did your country prode tonight mate, they really are special supporters. There was massive respect between both sets which is rare these days, bit of banter during the game at times, but it was all good and it was great just to take in what happened at the end.

Agreed, I'd love to petition the commission of a statue of him somewhere in our Town Centre, Liverpool shirt hanging out over his shorts, shin pads showing beneath his socks, supping a pint of lager with a Champions League Winners medal hanging around his neck - and smoking a big fat fucking cigar.

I've heard the legend of this story but have never saw the footage.  Someone must have a link to the German TV channel he gave this interview to in Istanbul.  Has anyone seen it or is it just an urban myth?

I heard off one of the bosses in our work (Manc fan by the way....) he was in Leo's Casino in the Kings Dock in Liverpool (classy gaff, you should go if you can get there....) about a year back and he won £45,000 and as it's their maximum payout (I wouldn't know I've never won that kind of money) they wouldn't let him play any more.

Legend Hamann.

30 shots on goal for us vs 5 for Betis...that sums it up. On a better day, both Gerrard and Morientes could get a hat-trick and Crouch could even match Savchenko...then again maybe not  :D

again effective game with good positional play without being too fancy
