They are all class.

Laughed when I saw that even in the 0-10-0 formation in the first one there is no place for Poulsen! :D

all legitimate solutions
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

For me Spearing, Cole and Shelvey are guaranteed bench warmers next season. I make the assumption that Aquilani will be sold based on his lack of squad number.

Which leaves battles for position between -

Lucas / Adam
Gerrard / Meireles
Kuyt / Henderson
Downing / Maxi

Yeah it looks bulky but have we not been striving for a like for like (or near enough to) replacement in every position?

Ive just played FIFA using all the avaliable midfielders (except GK). I played a 3-5-2

GK. Reina
DF. Lucas
DF. Meireles
DF. Poulson
LW. Downing
LM. Maxi
ATTMID. Aquilani
RM. Adam
RW. Henderson
ST. Cole
ST. Gerrard

Bench
SUB - Shelvey
SUB - Spearing
SUB - Pacheco
SUB - Jovanovic
SUB - Nabil El Zhar
SUB - Sterling
SUB - Doni (GK)

I played Hull City (away) at a lookalike Div 1 Stadia. The result - we won 6-1.
Cole scored 4, Gerrard, Downing scored the others.

Based on the pre-season so far I would pick

Adam (For corners, spot, free kicks, takes the burden away from Gerrard a little bit)
Gerrard (Bit of horse placenta & he won't feel a thing in that groin of his)
Kuyt (Works too hard to drop)
Downing (Looks like the only player who will give Carroll good crosses)

We'll be playing 5 (or 3, depending how you define it) in midfield next year:

                      Lucas
               Gerrard   Adam
Suarez                                 Downing
                    Carroll

Something like that I assume

I honestly think that Lucas will be dropped to enforce a more rigid formation.

Come on !

Kuyt a weak link?

He had one of.........if not his best season for us last time out and will probably prove his worth again to us this season.

Kenny knows his value and im sure he will bring the best out in him again.

it comes down to...

Does kenny play 5,4 or 3 in midfield.

And who is he going to leave out? Maxi,Kuyt, Lucas, or Meireles?  players who you all (but not me) think played so well in the last half of season.

Is he actually going to play henderson regularly? or just occasionally/ fa/carling cup games/Break him into team.

i wouldnt be suprised if KK played five in midfield to accomodate most of em, which is a Rafa mistake.

Im expecting to see the exit of Aquilani, before the season starts.

mine would be four in Midfield....
Downing   Gerrard  Adam/Henderson   Kuyt .. for most games

bench warmers: Lucas, Meireles, Maxi, Spearing, cole, shelvey, Poulsen etc.

I think kenny is looking for another club for some of my bench warmers permanently/ on loan without a doubt.
Someone aint gonna be happy.

Cole, Poulsen and Aquilani can be sold and we can loan out Shelvey. That’s would still leave us with plenty as we won’t be playing in Europe.

it does look like we have too many midfielders on the books but overall i would be concerned about the depth of quality.
the best of them are gerrard, adam, downing, merieles and lucas.henderson and shelvey have potential for the future whilst cole, maxi and spearing arent good enough.
should gerrard struggle to regain fitness and injury to one or two others will leave us stretched again and lacking quality in reserve.
we still have only 1 natural wide player there too so thats a cause for concern.

agreed.

If Stevie G gets a 3 month lay off, henderson and adam, are unproven consistently under pressure at this level, at the standard that the fans will expect.

I included Kuyt as right midfield as he isnt the best crosser, but rarely loses posession and can nick a goal.

This is also why I think Dalglish may play 5 in Midfield and not four, with Lucas or Adam, as Defensive cover. he definately will if Stevie gets injured!

Teams like barca, arsenal and the Manc Sh*t dont play 5 in midfield often due to very good quality of the four!

On that basis we may be short on quality.

Remember we are supposed to be bidding for a league title challenge, not fourth place this term.

Letting Aqua and Raul leave was clearly a mistake... I think in the short term we need Stevie back and in top form as soon as possible.  Then we should probably sign a creative CM in January window.

At one point, it seemed like we had a bulging midfield.  Now with Adam suspended, if Gerrard is not fit Spearing + shelvey are the only real options we have
