That is not true at all. Youth players are totally dependent on the decisions made by their coaches. Would Carra have ever made it if he had continued as a striker? Tommy Smith another striker.

Its not about being "that good," most players that make it arn't "that much" better than the ones that don't. They usually have a little something extra that's all. Maybe a little more confidence, dedication, burst of acceleration or are a little bit bigger, tougher etc. You will always get your Owens and Gerrards who do stand out, but for the majority its always a gamble.

Its a gamble buying an experienced international player, how much more so with an untried and untested 16year old.

Maybe they are lucky and there is a position that's open, maybe they are unlucky and they get an injury that sets them back, and the opportunity is gone.

Maybe they have a manager and coaches who like to push youth, maybe they have a manager that likes to fill gaps in the squad with internationals.

Players like everyone else become disheartened, lose focus, have off field problems, girl trouble.

but all the best players around have stood out - carra etc all stood out - thats what makes them the best - same with all the top players they all stand out no matter what nationality they are and they stood out from a very early age - some of these kids we have bought have stood out in their respective countries and here and now they have a chance - yes the coaches etc will have a big say but they go to show the dedication , commitment , willingness, skill, desire ,drive and above all the ability to succeed . but when it all comes down to it , it shouldnt matter where the player comes from .

If all the good young players stand out so much, why do we bother signing so many players that don't make it? Surely we should just concentrate on the players that stand out.

Its the very FACT that they don't stand out so clearly that means we sign lots that don't make it.

They are all talented, all have attributes that make them "special", all stand out in different ways.

heard this isn't a great source but surely they would not fabricate an entire interview, right?

He is a left-sided midfielder with extraordinary talent. He has great quality, a good shot, his vision is great and his passing is outstanding. He has a bit of everything and I think they have signed a jewel. With a youth team one can try them out in several positions, but I think he would also be good as an attacking or holding midfielder. He may not have that much speed, that is not his strong point. But he can dribble well and does have great vision. He could be effective playing in the middle.

I do not like making comparisons, but if you are talking about his style of play then maybe someone like Guti. He may also have something about him like Albert Riera too, but not as much. I think Suso does have elements of those players. What is very important though is that he can score goals. He likes to go into the area as part of the second wave. He has scored a good number of goals from distance too, that is one of his qualities.

They have been signed because they have stood out at various ages and at various times in their life during school or trials etc at a lower level then once they get a chance at a big club or get signed up up to the next level they have to stand out once again .yes its hard and yes its always a testing time for them but its the way it goes - once they stand out at under 18s then its ressies they need to stand out then they get a chance with training with the first team and need to stand out and learn then they get a chance and they also once again have to stand out - harsh i know but its reality - it isnt given to them on a plate they have to work damn hard to get it .

Anderson quickly became an important member of the youth squad that went onto win the FA Youth Cup in 2006. His great form earned him a call up to the first team and he was an unused in the Champions League 2nd leg game against Benfica. In the 2006 off season Paul was given a chance in the friendly
against Wrexham in which he made an immediate impact scoring a well taken volley from a Riise cross.

Anderson has played consistently well for the reserves so far this season and he is one of the players  Rafa Benitez believes will be challenging for first team places in the near future. Big things are expected from Anderson and he may well help to answer the problems of recent year in the right wing position.

Where is he now Swansea ?   They are all great when we sign them :D

he had an injury riddled season at Forest last term, but played well when he saw the pitch. He was more impressive the season before at Swansea in League One, helping them earn promotion

Sending a player out on loan is usually just the prelude to us selling a player.

I can't remember the last player we loaned out who went on to make it with us. (MAYBE NEVER?)

I have said it before :- the way it works is a player is loaned out, while he is away his position in the reserves is taken by someone else, so on his return he has no position in the reserves and is still considered not ready or good enough for our first team squad. So they then move the player on in the hope that the player gets an offer from the next loan club.

I suppose you could just about argue Warnock - went on loan to Coventry, got their player of the season then made the breakthrough at LFC.  That said he was never a regular starter.  We did get a reasonable transfer fee for him though.  Some would argue we should have kept him (not me).

well sending the player out on loan is a good indication of what he can do in a competitive league saint - if they have been sold after its because the coaches etc feel he wont make it at the top level . no player who has been sold after going out on loan and proven anyone wrong yet .

If they are good enough saint they will show it whatever level they are playing at - arsenal and all the other teams have sent players out on loan and some have come back after showing they caan make the step up where as some have been sold .

Its bloody hard to break through and they got to prove themselves , grab a chance whenever they can and show they can make it - if they dont then they move on . 5 years is a short time for Rafa to make his mark with youth when you consider how long it took ferguson to bring through kids - ten years was it before the nevilles and beckhams etc and then wenger has had another ten years as well . both have used the scattergun approach or spending 10 million plus on kids . Its hit and miss with youth as unless they are very very very special they you will never really be able to see how they react to the higher level - hence the normal progression - academy under 18s - ressies - pre season - loan - possible first team chance if they have proved themselves .

Other clubs send their stars out on loan mate...... we don't. Owen, Gerrard, Carra, Mcmanaman going back as far as you like. All stayed at the club, while the likes of Beckem et al at OTHER  CLUBS where being loaned out.

and the reason why they werent sent out on loan ? because they at even a young age showed they were good enough to play in the first team . Every single one of them . they also came through at a time when the first team was lacking in talent and these guys showed to the coaches that they were better if not as good as the players in the first team - they got given a chance and grabbed it - Owen scored on his debut after breaking every scoring record going and being outstanding at england schoolboy level - Fowler scored 4 in his second game after staring for england under 21s , macca ran the show on his debut , carra showed his ability on his debut and even scored , gerrard same as the others - they shone highly at every level before they got a chance . Once they got a chance they took it with both hands and didnt let go .

maybe these kids get sent out on loan because they have shone like others did before them .

Going by YOUR argument if they had "shone like others did before" they would have been put in the first team. The FACT that they are allowed out on loan shows they are either not ready or not good enough and in almost every case (Warnock being a very dubious exception) they have up to now always proved not good enough.

As soon as we loan a player out you can put money on it that he will be on his way sooner rather than later.

I did a post a while ago on "where are they now" about our reserves...... most of them aren't even playing league football now.
