Liverpool close in on 16 year-old star

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

*takes a deep breath* - RANT RAVE SCREAM MOAN WHINGE.....

Nah, not at all, Scottish league is absolutely woeful! From a guy who watches its failings week in, week out, take my word for it. There are 4 decent teams - the big 2 cancerous sisters known as the Old Firm, Heart of Midlothian (also known as Heart of Lithuania) and Hibernian. Hibernian on their day would give a lot of the mid-lower Premiership teams a run for their money.

Aside from that, that's why these players stand out. They can show a bit of talent. However, talented players dont always look good in Scotland, because unlike many leagues (including the Premiership), you dont get ANY time on the ball. Take Mikel Arteta who currently plays for Everton (hiss, boo, i know) - he was :censored: in Scotland, but has performed to a good level (allbeit with a lesser team, once again, i know  :p ) with Everton.

But when we consider this boy is playing for a team in the 1st division, and scoring goals against woeful defences, but STILL was on the wrong end of a 2-4 scoreline yesterday, doesn't it make you wonder what the coaching staff at Anfield are smoking?

from bbc:

Liverpool table bid for McCarthy

Liverpool have tabled an undisclosed offer for Hamilton Academical youngster James McCarthy.
The 16-year-old, who scored his first senior goal for the Accies at the weekend, is spending a couple of days at Reading this week.

A host of clubs north and south of the border are reported to be interested in the attacking midfielder.

Hamilton boss Billy Reid said: "Liverpool made an offer for Jamie but he has not refused or accepted as yet."

The teenager will take in the Royals' FA Cup tie against Burnley on Tuesday.

It is believed McCarthy spent last week on trial at Melwood and as a result of his performance the Anfield club tabled their undisclosed offer to the Scottish Division One side.

Reid said he would be joining McCarthy during his visit to Reading.

"Reading is a well-run team, as are Liverpool. But there is so much interest in Jamie just now and we're not in a hurry to sell him," added Reid.

"He is just going to take it as it comes and make the right decision for himself."

There's the BBC dramatising the headlines again. I flipping thought we had tabled a bid for Benni McCarthy

Did anyone read the daily club news part in the Times today?

It seems Rafa thinks quie highly of this kid as he was quoted to have said that the kid has better natural abilty that Steven Gerrard did at that age.

Quite a bold statement. :D

Yeah  :D

Whatever happened to him. Is he still at Millwall?

I dont get to excited these days over youngsters as a mixture of media hype and compialtion videos often build the player up to high expectations.

But if he is indeed as talanted as Stevie was at that age then you never know.

Still youd think that those comments made would be something said after we had signed him. As far as i know we have only had him on trial.
