LIVERPOOL 3 - 1 ASTON VILLA - ALL POST MATCH REACTION HERE PLEASE

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

This is going to be another tough game. Villa look a totally different side to the one we beat 3-1 last season, although the squad is pretty much the same (which you have to give credit to Martin O'Neill for)

Watching the game last night, although we did let in a coulple of soft goals towards the end (i'm loathe to blame anyone for that though, cos we did have an fairly inexperienced defence out there), attacking-wise it was some of the best football ive seen us play this season. i thought crouch, fowler & pennant linked up superbly (as did Kuyt when he came on), which i think was down to Robbie mostly, he had some great touches last night, especially the one-two with crouchie for his goal. So id like to see Robbie start on saturday, though i reckon rafa will probably go with Kuyt & Crouch.

I also thought Pennant had probably his best game in a liverpool shirt last night, but i cant see rafa going for anything other than a midfield including Alonso, Sissoko & Stevie on the right (i really hope he doesnt play Stevie or Pennant on the left), with Gonzo on the left, which means he'll be on the bench.

I do honestly believe we should win this one though and, as long as we keep Gareth Barry in check, we should keep a clean sheet (their forwards arent exactly setting the prem alight at the moment are they?)

This is the line-up i think he'll go for:
                            Reina

     Finnan      Hyypia          Agger        Riise

    Gerrard      Sissoko      Alonso      Gonzales

                   Kuyt        Crouch

2-0 liverpool, Both forwards with one a peice

I think Pennant has to start at the weekend. He had another good game last night by all accounts and I think deserves a run in the team!

Therefore

                        Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Agger     Warnock

  Gerrard      Alonso     Sissoko     Riise

                 Crouch     Fowler

Although nowadays who know who Rafa will play! After seeing the highlights from last night I think its clear that Riise and Agger will start. I think Fowler deserves a chance to start a home game.

I like that selection Southcoast. :buttrock

                                    Reina

Finnan  Hyypia (if Carra not inj) Agger  Riise

             Pennant    Gerrard     Alonso     Gonzalez

                             Crouch     Kuyt.

I'd also play Robbie at some point whether we're winning losing or drawing he should get a game IMO.!

i would go with this line up, to get Villa their first loss of the season.

Common Boys!

Liverpol 2 - Villa 1

Crouch, Gerrard

I would go with this assuming these players are all fit.

                       Reina

Finnan        JC       Agger       Warnock

Gerrard     Alonso    Sissoko      Riise

               Kuyt       Fowler

I would only play JC and Agger if they are 100% fit, wouldnt be surprised if Sami did play though as he has no injury problems to contend with.  Warnock will give us the solidarity we need against Agbonlahor and finnan is a gimme.

Aston Villa have a strong midfield.  Sissoko will have to keep an eye on petrov and both Gerrard and Riise will need to track back and help the full-backs against the in-form Barry and Agbonlahor.  Our midfield is quality though and some good performances will ensure we come out on top.

Would definitely start Kuyt.  I would like to see Crouch against his old club but he tends to come quite deep like kuyt and if we dont play pennant on the right he may not get the service he requires.  For this reason i would play fowler.  He's hungry, a natural goalscorer and he could give us that buzz that we need right now.  It could be a great partnership.  Would not be upset in the slightest though to see Crouch start, he deserves it.

Id play Kuyt with Fowler personally.
Keep pennant on the right, maybe give momo a break and have alonso and stevie in the middle. risse on the left wing.

Kuyt is still playing really well if you ask me and has great awareness. Fowler is one of the best thinkers in the game and i think they'll work well together

kuyt is playing well. And he's got even more motive now...

KUYT: MY HERO IS COMING TO ANFIELD

Dirk Kuyt has spoken of his pride that his father will be at Anfield for the first time on Saturday – just three weeks after undergoing lifesaving surgery.
The Dutchman feared his dad would never see him don a red shirt after being diagnosed with cancer.

But doctors have now given Kuyt senior the all-clear to travel to England to watch his son.

"That will be a special moment for us because before the operation we didn't know if he'd ever be able to watch me," Kuyt told liverpoolfc.tv.

"He had cancer between the throat and the stomach. He had a big operation three weeks ago but he's doing very well now. The doctors tell us the cancer is out of his body but we still have to pray everything will be all right."

------

how about that for motivation!

And i wouldnt mind seeing robbie alongside him - i just think with him playing the full 90mins on wed night, and although crouch did aswel, it was robbies first game back from injury, so he might be eased back in

I just hope Rafa lets his heart rule and plays Kuyt. It would be terrible if Kuyt doesnt play!
