The way i see it, and no real insight here, we are probably gone for all money now in the Prem. Not totally, but probably. That said, we are all makign the assumption that the Mancs will continue as strongly as they are currently going. If they lost two on the bounce, we'd be back in it. Unlikely possibly, but by no means impossible.

As for today, we didn't lose the title in that match. They aren't a bad side by any means and showed it second half, and given their recent aquisitions I would think they are at least the same sort of standard as Everton, and possibly better.

If we have lost it, we probably lost it earlier in the season with all the draws. For now, we have to i guess really focus ont he Champions League, and hope the Mancs fall in a bit of a hole.

Not really that much changed today though. We didn't play awful, we just failed to beat Man City at Home. One of those things, and I hope it doesn't descend into anarchy on here as a result of it.

Mick, but what I would like to know is what is required now for Rafa to keep his job?

It seems clear to me that more and more fans are feeling a bit cheesed off with the lack of depth of quality in the sqaud and poor results.

I honestly don't think he will be sacked but I think for the season to not be a complete failiure we need to really push for winning the European Cup.

Bav mate, if we dont get to at least the semis , thats it, as far as i am concerned.

we win the CL (big ask with our squad), hooray and all is good.
but say we dont, who we gonna buy in the summer to really make the difference for a title challenge!

Gutted that our season is over now. But we are not good enough missed Alonso terribly today, im dreading the next few months.

Better chance of winning the Champs League than Prem tho.

i think we need to make sure we finish 2nd to at least show SOME progress from last season. However, for me, it has been as much off the field as on it that Rafa has disapointed me. His outburst lead to our poor run of results and the whole Keane saga has left me very, very worried about Rafa's ability to cope with pressure. Old purple nose must be laughing his socks off, because our manager has pressed the self destruct button and ruined our chances of winning the league.

5 years on and we're back to where we were with houllier...in the fact our squad is filled with mediocre players who we have paid millions over the odds for. Babel, Lucas, Dossenna are awful players and should never been signed...or least been sold when it became obvious that they weren’t suited or good enough for the Premiership.

I fear Rafa has taken Houllier’s route in the fact he now cannot accept the team is below par and he’s going to continue with his baffling selections and tactics until he is relieved of his duties.

You don't want us to win the CL??? WTF?

I want us to win anything and everything we can including the league.

Ciggy you are like a weatherwane always pointing in different directions, come on in 30 minutes you'be calling me a negative c&/t like normal.  :D  :D

BTW Big Mick I totoaly disagree with you, I thought we fairly bad today and Man Citeh were almost worse which is why it is so irritating. We gave the ball away so much that it was depressing and weirdly we played worse in the 2nd half than the 1st so I'm not sure what Rafa said at half time but it must have been dynamite.  :sleep

A large proportion of the time the (mantra) if you like, of this side comes across as geared towards being 'Reactive' as opposed to 'Pro-active' - set up to take into account consequences which 'might' happen rather than engineering a sense of purpose and drive from the off (obvious occasions aside) that could easily have altered the results of many of these draws. When the s.hit hits the fan....the team will step it up a gear - and they look a hell of a lot better outfit because of that mindset. You've only to look at the games where we have come from behind in earlier in the season to realise the obvious.

But, this is Rafa Benitez' philosophy - and in his world...he is comfortable operating under those conditions. Grind the opposition down and hit them with a swift counter....(Even when playing at Anfield often times)

I too would like to see more confidence in the players by way of them having a real good go for the first twenty minutes or so...THEN assess the situation. Rather than waiting for a chance to have to react to something which has already occured.....sometimes with too little time left in which to affect that change. Instead of preventing the opportunity in the first place. I'm not advocating the bull in a china shop approach, lets be clear - but teams who are put straight on the backfoot from the outset have a much likelier chance of becoming wary and less confident that they are able to grab something, or simply pressed into making errors which undoubtedly unsettles their plans...making THEM think about how to adapt. Not the other way round.

We have the first team to do that to nigh on any side in Europe on our day - it would be nice to be willing and capable of taking the fight to ALL our opposition, every man jack of them. Lets face it - it works, when you have the players to do it that is. And going down into the depths of this squad is where the sticking points occur, and until the general quality is raised further - this 'lets wait and see' mentality will probably stay in vogue. And propogate yet more 'might have beens' - or if you prefer colloquisms....'Ifithadnerbinfers'

Sadly, this season's end of term report is heading towards realising that epitaph increasingly with each game chalked off the board. Hope, now.....thats where we are at.

We choked to early and our lack of extending the lead when we were on top has caught us up.. TBH if chelsea kick in gear and if we continue our stuttering form we could end up finishing 3rd..
Rafa must be loving it now thinking yipeeee i could concentrate on the champs league... TBH under rafa i really dont think we will ever win the premiership. His management skills wont get you any titles.. Under this same mentality he won the title with valencia but if you check the stats then he was really lucky. Many many draws and the other teams challenging played absolutely shyte... See if history was to repeat itself we would need mannure to lose many more games so we could just about snatch the title...
To put it in perspective to challenge a team that is very consistent is somthing rafa is incapable of!!
This is as far as his going to take our team............

I think one big disadvantage of the "wait and see" approach is it allows the other team to gain confidence and begin to think they can get something from the game. Hit them hard in the first 20 to 30 mins and quite a few teams will decide that "todays not going to be their day" and then its an easier path to victory.

Why should supporting Liverpool have more to do with what the Mancs do and don't do? Remember that little comfort blanket us Liverpool fans use to hold onto regarding past success in the league and how many titles we had over them? Well, time to put that old rag down because it's gone and people need to really get over it. The safeguarding of the club's future and reputation is far more important and more at stake here. How can we ever recover when we're a shambles where it matters in the club, and that's how it's run. Yanks out!
